Other Countries / Yugoslavia: Looking for Anthony Major b. 1885
« on: Sunday 01 December 19 11:39 GMT (UK)  »
Hello. I am looking for Anthony Major/Anton Majer born June 12, 1885.

Here is what I have found so far:

1930 U.S. Census finds him living in Fairmont, St. Clair County, Illinois, USA. It lists him as being born in Austria in 1884. Parents also born Austria. Native language Croatian. Immigrated in 1910. Married 18 years. Alien.
1920 Census -(Tony & Annie Madger) same information but lists native tongue as Bohemian & immigration as 1901.

Find A Grave data:
Born June 12, 1885, died Feb. 5, 1931. Parents were Michael & Eva Stelich Major. Anthony married Anna Ziaza/Jiaja ? b. 1886 Austria.

Illinois Death Index:
Name:Anthony Major Birth Date:13 Jun 1885 Birth Place: Jugo, Slavia
Father Name:Michael Major Father Birth Place: Jugo, Slavia Mother Name:Eva Stelich Mother Birth Place: Jugo, Slivia
Comments:resident 12y in U.S.A.

There are 3 different immigration years listed. The only immigration record I could find has the following data-
Anton Majer: Arrival Dec. 1911. Age 26, Last Residence- Bohemia Ship- Willehad, Port of Arrival Baltimore, Maryland, Destination Cleveland Ohio, Nationality- Austria Hungary, Race Bohemian, last country lived in Bohemia, City/Town Vlahinička, Father Anton Majer, Bohemia, Ludvina, Croatia.
I cannot decipher all of page 2. He goes to his brother in laws home in Saylor, Ohio.

Thank you for any information you may find on the Anthony Major family.

I have made a lot of progress using DNA to help me find more information on my Gilmore family.
First I have discovered that John's parents were Francis & Mary Gilmore. As John was born around 1805 I can only guess that Francis would have been born at the latest 20 years earlier -1885.
I'm hoping that now having his father's name will help along with my DNA matches to other Gilmore's.
I believe that Francis Gilmore had several brothers also living in Ontario Canada.

John "Black Jock" Gilmore b. 1799 Ballynure, Grange of Doagh, Antrim who married Isabella Cochran  b. 1796. Her father was Alexander Cochran & mother Elizabeth Campbell. Alexander immigrated to Gore, Argenteuil, Quebec before 1840. They had a son John Gilmore born 1819 in Ireland.

John William (William) Gilmore b. 1798 married Elizabeth Bell b 1807. Their first son John was born in 1830 Osnabruck, Ontario. Family trees associated with this family list his place of birth as Belfast.

William Gilmore b. 1787 married to Catherine McLellen. Their 1st child Sara was born in Canada in 1842.

Joseph Gilmore b. 1798 married Mary Blackadda(r)/Blackater/Blackadore b 1805. The had a son James Blackadda Gilmore b. 1826 Ireland.

I'm hoping the above information I have found may help to find where my Gilmore family came from. At least they all have Antrim in common. :-) If nothing else can be found, I'm happy with what I have.
Another thing I noticed was each of the "brothers" had a son John. Perhaps this could be that their father was named John. ? Also at some point in each family they had a Francis.

Thanks,
Donna

Thank you for your replies.

For gaffy- Sorry. It was on his marriage record his place of birth along with his age and occupation.

For aghadowey- Thank you for providing the links.
I am looking for a Francis Gilmore who had a son John b. 1805 and a son Francis. Through DNA matches I have found Francis Jr. b. 1813 living in Osnabruk, Stormont  County, Ontario in 1851.
I have found a Francis Gilmore in South Carolina who is with the Rockingham Va. Gilmore line. He also had a son Francis but this is not the family I am looking for. Same for the Francis Gilmore in Jefferson N.Y. from the Rockingham N.H. line. Of course I am very distantly related to both lines!
Both families originated from Coleraine and as Michael Raney was from nearby, I was hoping to find a Francis Gilmore near there with sons Francis & John.

I will keep looking for more information in Canada as this is mainly where my closest DNA matches are from. Thanks for the help. Much appreciated!

Antrim / Looking for Michael Renny/Raney/Rainey born abt. 1794 Baleymoney Antrim
« on: Sunday 19 August 18 15:33 BST (UK)  »
Hello! I have had a huge breakthrough using DNA to find information on my Rainey family from Ireland.
I have found a marriage record for Michael Renny (all written as found in the church records- census records show the name as Raney).
Michael Renny Religion: Anglican Marriage Date: 1819 Marriage Place:Quebec (Quebec City), Québec (Quebec)Place of Worship or Institution:Anglican Cathedral Holy Trinity Church Spouse:Mary McNicoll. The record also states he was age 25 and was a weaver.

So now I have an actual place in Ireland to start searching!

I have been looking for John Gilmore born about 1805 & wife Mary Rainey born about 1801. As I now have a bit more information as to where her brother Michael came from, I am hoping there may be more on Mary & John Gilmore as well. I also found that John's parents were Francis Gilmore & mother was named Mary according to a second marriage record for him. No marriage record for John & Mary. Their children were born in Grenville County Ontario Canada.

As Michael was indeed born in Ireland, I am presuming Mary was as well. I am hoping John Gilmore was also.

Any further information would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,
Donna Johnson

Monica,

Thank you for your reply. I do have that information. I am hoping that by following James perhaps I can find John Gilmore born 1799 & a wife Mary.

Although the information on the marriage record states he was born in Canada this may or may not be true. Am keeping all possibilities open.

Dumfriesshire / James Gilmore of Middlebie 1841
« on: Saturday 05 May 18 15:23 BST (UK)  »
Hello,
I am trying to find more information on my Gilmore family. I am looking for a John Gilmore born about 1793 & his wife (Mary?) born about 1799. I have found him in the 1861 census in Wentworth Ontario and he is listed as being born in Scotland.
I have also found a James Gilmore (I am presuming James & John are brothers) born 1799 Scotland who married Janet (Robertson). In the 1861 census they had the following children: Thomas b 1837, George b 1839 & Andrew b 1844.

From this information I found them in the 1841 Scotland census living in Middlebie at Netheralbie Cottage. I searched for John Gilmore but did not have any luck. I am hoping that my assumption is correct that they are siblings and someone can find information on John & his wife.

In my line I have John Henry Gilmore born about 1829 & a sister Agnes born about 1828. Parents were John Gilmore & Mary Rainey/Boney ?

Thank you for any information or tips on finding my John Gilmore family.
