Technical Help / RDBMS files to Windows 11
« on: Wednesday 27 March 24 10:20 GMT (UK)  »
I have inherited a number of files produced on an RDBMS system.  Is there a way of converting these for use on a Windows system?

Hi Debra.  You are right.  The Huddersfield Chronicle has the correct name.

You've solved the mystery nicely.

Thanks ever so much

As the article at the link which I gave says

QUARRY ACCIDENT AT BRIGHOUSE, Yorkshire, England
At nine o'clock this morning a serious accident occurred at a quarry owned by John Robinson, situate in Rayner Road, Brighouse. The miners were at work when a large piece of stone, weighing considerably over half a ton, fell from the roof without the slightest warning upon three men working beneath.

Upon the large stone being lifted it was found that two workmen had sustained very serious injury. One, John Willie Robinson (35), married, residing at Slead Syke, Brighouse, son of the owner, Alderman John Robinson, was fearfully cut about the head and face, and also on the left side of the body. Another workman, named Alfred Farrar (36), married, residing in Smithy Carr Lane, had been caught on the back and on one hand, the wrist of which was broken. Another man, named Gooder, escaped with a grazed foot.

Yorkshire (West Riding) / John Willie Robinson / Brighouse / 1899
« on: Saturday 09 March 24 12:44 GMT (UK)  »
In researching Alderman John Aspinall Robinson [1833-1902] a quarry owner in Brighouse,  I came across a newspaper report of an accident at the quarry in 1899 in which a John Willie Robinson (described as son of the owner aged 35) was killed.

I know Alderman Robinson had a son called James William Robinson [b 1865] who would be about 35 years old at this time, but James William was still alive in 1911.  So who was John Willie Robinson?

You can see the full details in relevant newspaper report at

calderdalecompanion.co.uk/x619.html

I haven't been able to find any other reports or information about John Willie and wondered whether Rootschatters can help throw any light on the mystery

Technical Help / Re: Labels in WORD
« on: Saturday 13 January 24 15:49 GMT (UK)  »
Thanks for the responses.  I'm using a fairly simple WORD Table to print in a standard Avery label format - never dabbled with MAIL MERGE.  It's actually to print my Christmas card labels, and as older members of the extended family leave this mortal coil, I want to remove their address and to save space by moving the following labels up, rather than having to print the next set with what gaps here and there which are difficult to use later.

Latchfordian, your "cut and paste sequence" obviously works when I select an existing label and move to it an empty cell in the table.

I didn't want to have to move every following address up in order to keep the addresses in sequence.  Cut and paste doesn't with several adjacent addresses; Cut does indeed remove them, but Paste only recovers the first of the group.  Looks like I shall have to remove a single address from the end of the set and paste it into the gap, although that would lost the sequence.  I've got a year to sort it out!

Thanks again

Technical Help / Labels in WORD

I handle a number of address labels with WORD.  Is there some way of moving the following labels up (to close the gap) when I delete an address?

Thanks in advance.

Thank you for your help.  I noticed that Bail Gate followed but thought that the Bail was some important/significant building.

Best wishes and thanks again

Lincolnshire / What is the Bail of Lincoln?
« on: Sunday 02 April 23 10:08 BST (UK)  »
I have encountered a Seely family who lived at 11 Bail of Lincoln in 1871.

Can anyone tell me anything about the Bail of Lincoln?  Was it a street or an institution?  Is it still there?

Technical Help / Calderdale Companion
« on: Sunday 22 January 23 12:03 GMT (UK)  »
For several years, my Calderdale Companion was hosted by ROOTSWEB, until around 2016, when everything at ROOTSWEB seemed to vanish overnight and without any explanation.  I moved to a new host where it can be still be found via

calderdalecompanion.co.uk

Sometime later, the ROOTSWEB version rematerialised but is frozen in its 2017 form.

Question:  How do I remove my website from the ROOTSWEB host?

Why do I want to remove the website?  People are continually emailing me complaining (1) that material is out-of-date or incorrect, or (2) information that they have submitted to me does not appear when they view it online.

I long ago got rid of the URL addresses and passwords needed to handle the ROOTSWEB hosting site.

Thanks in advance.
