Hi Dawn,
Thanks for replying
There is a major difference. The name on the birth certificates is Janet but her 'real' name was Vera.
The surnames are different too.

Thank you for your reply.
That's a shame  :(
Is there any other avenues I could explore?
Thanks

Family History Beginners Board / Birth registration 1930s - 1959
« on: Wednesday 22 October 14 00:25 BST (UK)  »
Good morning,

I am looking for a little bit of advice on a matter relating to registering births.
On my Mothers and her 6 other siblings’ birth certificates, their birth mothers name is different to her actual real name. However the father’s name is correct.
I have done a BDM check and I cannot seem to find anyone with that name.
Does anyone know how common this would have been from late 1930’s to 1959 to ‘fake’ a name when registering a birth? I would have though official documentation would have had to be shown?
I can't see anyone getting away with it these days.

Many thanks in anticipation

Kind regards

Armed Forces / Locating a photograph
« on: Tuesday 21 October 14 23:54 BST (UK)  »
Good evening,

I am undertaking research into my deceased Grandfathers history and I have discovered he was in the Army.

He served in the 14/20 Hussars from 1920-1927/30
And then re-joined the 2nd Hampshire Regiment from 1931 – 1932

I have just sent the forms off to the MOD for the service record.

I am trying to locate a photograph of him and the majority of places I have contacted have drawn a blank including museums. No family members have a photo of him.
Please could someone kindly point me in the right direction to possibly locate a photograph?

Many thanks
