Quite a few of those have 4, 5 or 6 names, so depends how the son decided on Paul for his father, or whoever supplied the newspaper with the information.

Was looking up newspapers following ShaunJ, if it is the correct man he had 6 daughters, probably not him, but keeping me busy.  This was 1957

Hanging head in shame - not got the marriage certificate.

Reason?

I am looking at all marriages reported in the local newspaper in different years to see where it gets me.  Have expanded from just the actual marriage, clothes, gifts, reception, honeymoon, to where the bride and groom and parents came from and went to, local (lots remain really local) or otherwise.

There are about 80 marriages reported in 1951 and 120 in 1960, not yet picked a date in the 1930's or 1940's - need a good write-up and enough ceremonies to be meaningful.  That is an awful lot of certificate purchase needed, and I do not need to know too much about them if place and date of birth and death just fall out, which they frequently do.

I have got an interesting mix, including Royalty as guests, a couple who married at 19 and 21 and are still married 61 year later, Barnardos orphan, third marriages that no-one else has picked up, etc etc so I keep on going.

I did wonder how common Pace was as a surname, have been lead astray when what sounds unusual is really common in one locality.

Reading your post, Trish, OK, have not seen that tree - Ancestry or elsewhere?  I have emailed quite a lot of people and some have been amazingly helpful.

If the father or mother of the groom is dead, the newspaper frequently puts e.g. 'Mrs and the late Mr Paul Pace of Malta'.  I know they mix things up, but just in case he is still alive in 1951.

However, the other bits do hang together really well, and give me lots to look at. Added bonus of a picture.

Thank-you.

I have a Lawrence Pace marrying in Hampshire in 1951 and dying in 1989, birth 27/08/1927 - so not born in Hampshire, or England.  One of his children was given the name Emanwela Pauline Rosita Pace, the other's first name looks traditionally English.

Lawrence's parents are Mr & Mrs Paul Pace 'of Malta'.

I have been using this site, from another rootschatter, but nothing this time that I can see:
https://web.archive.org/web/20180507182524/http://website.lineone.net/~stephaniebidmead/other%20sites.htm

Any other suggestions, his birth, anything about his parents.

I was first thinking from a military family, born anywhere, and then served in WW2 and married thereafter, but if that birth date is accurate, too young.
Next idea, visiting relatives as there are Pace families in the area, but there are in most areas, whilst doing military service after war, or not.
Father Paul could be Paulo, and he could have been Laurence...

Thanks for any input.

Greatly disappointed (not really) ;)

Expected to find someone straightaway using that site.  Nothing.  I will post on the Malta page so as not to confuse matters.

What a very useful website - well, for Lilian Melita it definitely is.  I was struggling with the official Malta sites and getting nowhere.

Thank-you very much.

Thanks for doing all that work.

I have James William Charles Bell as born in Portsea in 1896, and died in Southampton in 1967.  His wife, Lilian Gertrude B Bell (who first married Alfred Luke) was born in Winchester in 1897 and died in Southampton in 1987.

For the project that I am doing, amongst other things, I am trying to find the birth places of the participants, so I rather want Lilian to come from Malta as that widens the countries that people were born in.  But I would like some proof other than the name Melita.

For another family, in the 1901 census the girl was born in Portugal and her brother in Bermuda. No problem finding his birth record, but no hint of her.  It is her birth I am interested in.

Some families stay in the same place for generations, other hop around all over the world.

He can be serving abroad, but I thought the family was usually left behind...

Have got some of his records on Ancestry, but no success with overseas births.
