Family History Beginners Board / Re: Coroners Inquest for a baby
« on: Friday 14 April 17 01:53 BST (UK)  »
Thank you. I have emailed the coroners office but no reply so far.
The babys parents were Theodore Frederick Wendt and Elizabeth Fairhurst. According to the 1911 census, Elizabeth had given birth to 12 children 10 of whom were still living. We have been able to find births for 10 of the children but Mary and Reginald (the 12th) do not seem to be registered. The children were born in several places - Wirral, Barry, Marsden in Yorkshire but no record of these two. We did find the death of Mary - as she was 3 months old when she died, her birth should be in the 3rd or 4th quarter of 1897.

Hello,
I would like to know if the Coroners Inquest Records exist for 1898. The details are:

Mary Wilhelmina Wendt died 6 January 1898. The death was recorded at Chipping Sodbury on 8 January 1898. The certificate says "Certificate received from Edward Mills Grace, Coroner for Gloucestershire. Inquest held Seventh January 1898". The cause of death was "Accidentally suffocated whilst in bed with her parents".
I have done a newspaper archive search on several sites with no luck.
There is no birth record for this child who was 3 months old when she died.
Thank you

Hi,

The family does have the death certificate but I haven't seen it (not directly related - husbands cousin related to the Wendt's through marriage). Apparently death certificate does not contain enough information about birth.

1911 census says they had 12 children but I have only found 10 plus Reginald.

Thank you for the information from the newspapers - Theodore's granddaughters will be pleased - they think he was a bit of a character.

Jackie

Family History Beginners Board / Reginald James Wendt
« on: Tuesday 07 February 17 00:11 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,

I am looking for Reginald James Wendt, son of Theodore Ferdinand Wendt and Elizabeth Fairhurst. He first shows up in the 1911 census living at 10 Enfield Road, Ellesmere Port, aged 2.
He is on the passenger list when the family came to Australia in 1919 - mother and younger children.
I have searched freebmd, Cheshire BMD for full name, any Wendt, (and News), Reginald's or James born about the same year (1908 - 1910) but can't find any suitable candidate. The census says he was born in Ellsemere Port but the family did travel - other children born in Yorkshire and Glamorgan.

Does anyone know if any records are missing? Is there any where else I can look?

Marriage records arrived yesterday (Tuesday). William was only 18 when he married  - must have been the war.

Thank you all for your assistance.
He did marry Margaret Jamieson Sommerville in 1876. I can find 2 daughters, Isobel Sommerville and Margaret Gladys. these 3 people appear in census records for 1891, 1901 and 1911. Margaret appears with her family till 1871 but I haven't found her in 1881 - there are 26 Margaret Watts in the 1881 Scotland Census of about the right age but no Margaret J's. She does appear as Margaret G in 1901 and Margaret I in 1891.

William Hutcheon Watt appears in the 1841 and 1851 census for Montrose in Scotland, but I can't really find him in any others. He wasn't at home in 1891, 1901 or 1911.
I thought that ships at sea had to fill in a census and deliver them to the first port of call on arriving back in the UK - does anyone know if these are available?

The William Watt in Durham was his cousin born in 1843.

There seem to have been a number of William Watts who were seamen out of Montrose at about the same time.
A search of Lloyds List of Captains does not reveal any captains with names beginning with W.

The address given in the probate record does not match his wife and children's in 1911 but is close so I will accept this as his death.

Thank you again.

Family History Beginners Board / William Watt - scotsman working in Moscow 1917
« on: Sunday 21 August 16 03:21 BST (UK)  »
Hi,

I am trying to find out about a distant relative of my husband named William Watt. He was born in 1841 in Montrose, Scotland and he shows up as a ships master / owner at his marriage in 1876.

The only death we can find (Scotland's people and my self) is for a William Watt, mechanical engineer, who died in Moscow in December 1917. His death was reported by his son Alexander which would fit with the family naming tradition. The area he was living in was popular for workers at the Moscow mint. Does anyone know anything about foreigners working in Moscow at this time?
The son Alexander is a bit of a mystery too - so far no birth or death.

Thank you
Jackie Masson

Thank you for your assistance.
I have ordered copies of the parish registers for both the marriages from Cheshire BMD and am waiting for them to arrive.

I am not sure if William is a relative - I only remember meeting my paternal grandfather once in the 1950's and my father never talked much about his family.

Alfred's mother was Ellen Williams. Can you find out who William Suttons parents were? What site did you search? This side of my family is very hazy
