Hello Jim! I hope is well with you and your family. Very glad I came across your post re. DLI. I have been trying to fill in some gaps to my Uncle Bob (Robert McIntosh) who emigrated to South Africa back in the 50's/60's.
Looking through old photographs I came across these three. The most recent one was taken in September 1973 at a DLI reunion at Durham Cathedral. The second one with Uncle Bob sitting on a wall is annotated "Somewhere in Belgium January 1945". The third is a group that I cannot identify but maybe you or someone else can. It would be wonderful to have some info of his activities with the DLI.

Many thanks for your time, Alan

Hello people of RootsChat.

When I made my first tentative post I had no idea of the response I would get. Absolutely amazing. Lots of interesting information and several surprises including a link to the McIntosh web-site!
So much information, it's going to take me some time to work through it all. I'm sure there will be more surprises and full stops, so, no doubt, I will be back.

Grateful thanks to all. Alan  ;D

Apologies! I'm new to this game.

I suppose what I'm really looking for is where I might find the best links to immigration to Australia.

Thanks, Alan

Hi,

Firstly, I have got the date of immigration wrong in the subject heading - it should be 1959. Very sorry.(Heading corrected.)

George J was born 1926 or 1927 in Stockton, Co Durham.

He died ?

His father was Thomas Maven McIntosh.

His wife was/is Barbara born 1926 (nee Langford, I think)

Only known son was born 1957.

Many thanks, Alan

My uncle George McIntosh and family immigrated to Melbourne in 1965 from Darlington, County Durham, UK. I am trying to find any information about them to include them in my family tree.

Many thanks,

Alan (Capps)
