Technical Help / FTM 2010 problem
« on: Tuesday 30 June 20 15:32 BST (UK)  »
I'm a computer illiterate who desperately needs help with FTM 2010 operating on Windows10. Having bought a new laptop I had all the data transferred from my old laptop to the new one. In my ignorance I made a complete hash trying to open them with any programme except the right one which wasn't downloaded at the time consequently when I open a file it opens with either Wordpad or Media player. Although I have FTM 2010 installed the files will not open. However when I try to open FTM I get a message that a file was not closed down properly last time I used it and it needs to be compacted etc etc. This I understand but FTM will not open so how am I able to compact the file. Hopefully all is not lost and there is some kind person able to point me in the right direction to resurrect the whole mess.

Hi

If the FTM 2010 software was re- loaded by whoever sold you the laptop - your memory stick should work.  Without the FTM software - it won't.

Can you see an FTM icon on your home page?

ftm was not loaded onto the new laptop unfortunately FTM2010 is on disc and my laptop doesn't take discs. it's back to the professional once present conditions are lifted.

Technical Help / Help needed by PC illiterate octogenarian

having been inactive for a time with my research I have just decided to take up where I left off. unfortunately I am unable to open FTM 2010 on my windows laptop, I am also unable to open a back up which I have on a memory stick. I have recently changed laptops and all data was transferred by the professional from whom I bought the laptop. I have made an attempt to solve the problem myself but have found difficulty in understanding it all. please is there some kind person who could explain in PC dummy terms how to resolve my problem; that is if there is a resolution

Excuse my late reply but I'm having problems with navigation. I am so grateful for the details you have given and I am now able to rule this person out as being my great grandfather. Thank you for your time and trouble I appreciate it.
