Bit of a google turned up this:

http://www.ebid.net/uk/for-sale/kingsway-pictorial-science-book-4-1959-harold-webb-151885419.htm
 - somebody selling a textbook written in the 1950s by Harold Webb, headmaster at Halesowen Road County School, Dudley.

If this sounds like your man, the local archives in Dudley may be able to help.

That's fantastic. That could be him. What did you Google to find that?

In post 4 I posted that the Teachers'Registration Council Registers were on Find My Past.

Thanks. Just done a search on http://search.findmypast.co.uk/search-world-records/teachers-registration-council-registers-1914-1948 but nothing found for Harold Webb :-(

My great grandfather was also a headmaster and I found a document [back in the days when I still subscribed to Ancestry] from the Teachers Registration Council which gave his registry number and outlined his employment:

1881-1893, Assistant master, Christ Church School, Clifton, Bristol
1903-1920, Headmaster, St. Mark's Boys' School, Easton, Bristol
1920-1930, Headmaster, Castle Green Boys' School, Bristol

Also, check the newspapers.  I found an article describing the "handsome mahogany pedestal writing table, two nicely chased brass candlesticks, an engraved brass card tray and an inkstand" and three hearty cheers that he was given when he left Christ Church school to take up his position at St. Mark's.

I can't find Teachers Registration Council on Ancestry?

Have you thought of asking local Teachers Unions NUT, NAS (as it would have been at that time) in that area if they have any record? He may have been an active member - many junior School Heads at that period were NUT or NAS. (And the records may well be archived in a local centre)

Is it these: https://www.teachers.org.uk/contactus ?

Jim?

Jim gave the first reply to your query on this thread. He's the one with the avatar of his ancestor wearing a christmas hat  :)

Oh lol.

Jim might know of any elemenatary schools in West Brom in those days or you could try to get a list of them.

Added - a list of current ones:

He lived in West Bromwich in 1939 when he was listed as a headmaster. At some point between '39 and his death (1992) he lived in Birmingham.

Hi

On my relatives death certificate it states he was a retired School Headmaster and this is also listed on the 1939 census.

Is it possible to look through school records to find more information or photos?

Thanks
