Ancestral Family Tree DNA Testing / Re: The Times wants your views: DNA ethnicity results
« on: Wednesday 03 February 16 13:32 GMT (UK)  »
Not really interested.
DNA is great for forensics to catch Rapists, and Murderers .
I have used to it ascertain what breeds my rescue dog has evolved from. This was useful in pointing out certain health traits in specific breeds.
I can see no advantage to knowing who I really came from. I am quite content with the research I have done and the accompanying paper trail of certificates and church records, along with census details to satisfy my curiosity.
Thank you for asking for my input.

Sorry , Thank you for that information.
Here is my responce to Leonardo.

" As far as I know the archives in Northampton have a lot of information, which if you are writing a book you will probably need to go and search them. A lot of the information posted on the web is full of errors and guesswork.
I do have the photos provided by the incumbent of the church of St Mary Orlingbury, who took the photos for me, for which I made a donation to the church.
As you are wanting  to use these photos for financial gain may I suggest you contact him explaining this and get his written permission for me to pass them on to you. I would hate to be sued over copyright issues.
Patricia"

Yes, I think she may well have done that, so I guess I'll have to beg a look up on the American board. :o.
A relative of Susan got in touch with me, he knows Susan was married at least twice and lived in America so it is entirely possible that Minnie joined her. I've just had a trawl on the 1911 census, but the list has now grown too long to spend much time on right now.
I'll keep on digging though, someone might see this post and get a light bulb moment.

I found a way, ::)  on the Library and Archives of Canada site, they have images of all the census's. You search by area then open a pdf file and look down the actual census enumerators form.
I have found the adoptive parents but not Minnie. It's time consuming but nice to see the original document.
Thanks for your advice and help

Thank you PB.
I can't seem to get access to the site! Keeps telling me 7 people are using it so try again later. Is this normal?
Is there any other site with the 1901 census for Canada  on it?

Thank you both for you help.
I wonder if she might have changed her name to that of her adoptive parents?
Can you check the 1901 census for James and Jane Stott to see if she is still with them please. The Stotts had a son Albert , he would have been 10 or 11 in 1901.
I did check with Barnardo's to see if I might search their records but the the Fee is over £100 for documents and a photo, as I am just doing a one name study and they are not related to me I think I will have to pass that one up.
Thank once again
Patricia

Can some one please look for the death of Minnie Occomore?
I notice on the Canadian Ancestry there is a Minnie Oconner who died in York Northumberland West, Ontario ,which is near the place she was living
  in 1891
She appears to have gone to Hamilton Northumberland West, Ontario as shown on the 1891 Census of Canada and was adopted by an Irish Family called STOTT, (James and Jane )
She came from Camberwell London and was born in 1878. She was sent Dr Barnardos Home. along with her elder sister Susan Elizabeth Occomore they where both sent to a new life in Canada after the suddden death of their Father.
Minnie went in 1886 and her sister Susan (Susie) was sent over two years later. they appear to have been completely separated. Susan wasn't adopted, but went on to marry and live in America.
I am compiling a one name study of the name Occomore and It is a name that is often misspelled. I find typing Oc*more often yields good results.
I have asked for a check on the death records but if anyone can trace a marriage I would be most interested.
Many thanks
Patricia
