Family History Beginners Board / Re: Why register a birth in Canada?

Whilst Ancestry says she was born Isabella Jane Dennis, there is no document to support this.
I have an image of Isabella's birth registration (Scotland's People 1894 Taylor, Isabella Jane 692/2 201, page 67 of 515) and it does not mention Dennis.
The background to this is complicated, to say the least.
Euphemia Taylor married John Waters in 1890. When Isabella was born, there was no father registered, just a comment that he had not made contact for 3 years, so Isabella was illegitimate. Isabella's surname was given as 'Taylor or Waters'.
There is no mention of Thomas Dennis at this point; he crops up in the Canadian registration. He may or may not be the father. I can't find any BMD reference to Thomas Dennis nor can I find out what happened to John Waters; you'd think he must have died before Isabella was born, or at least before Isabella was registered in Canada, unless Euphemia and Thomas were pretending to be married.
I'd be eternally grateful if anyone could unearth anything!
And back to my original question; why the registration in Canada?
