Australia / Re: Advice regarding NSW address please?
« on: Wednesday 29 August 07 12:26 BST (UK)  »
Hi,

Just wanted to add that if you found the address on whitepages.com.au , this directory only states the street number of an address.  This means that if the recipient lives in an apartment eg. Unit 3 of number 123 Malabar Road (usually written as 3/123), then the postman may not be able to deliver it if you only have '123 Malabar Road', especially if the building contains a large number of apartments (hope that makes sense). Of course it's difficult to know if the premises is an apartment complex!  But if your letter is returned again, this might be why.  There's no other locality in NSW called Maroubra so even without a postcode it should have been possible to deliver the letter if the property was a house ie. freestanding dwelling and the address and recipient's name was correct.

good luck

Thanks again

Carolyn :)

Staffordshire Lookup Requests / 1841 census look-up please - Patmore
« on: Wednesday 30 November 05 09:46 GMT (UK)  »
Could someone please see if there is any trace of this family in the Newcastle area (I think!) in the 1841 census?  Specifically looking for Clement and Sarah Patmore (could be spelt Padmore or other variant). They emigrated to Australia in 1842 and I haven't had any luck in finding any info on them in England. Perhaps also Clement's parents Jephtha and Lucy Patmore might be there too.

Thanks in advance :)

Australia Lookups completed / O'Keefe/Keefe - Limerick to Australia
« on: Tuesday 01 November 05 09:51 GMT (UK)  »
Hello

Hoping someone out there can help me (still a novice!) with my first brickwall... My GGG Grandfather Michael O'Keefe emigrated to NSW from Limerick  with his wife Margaret (nee Fewer or Foley, d. 1907), settling in Queanbeyn area at first (I think?) and later Cooma/Berridale area. I think they arrived about 1841 as their first child was born in NSW in 1841 or 1842. They had 8 children including my GG grandfather, also named Michael. b. 1849 at Queanbeyan.  They appear to have dropped the 'O' from their surname at some point. He married Elizabeth Flint in 1870 at Queanbeyan and she died in 1950.

I do not know which ship this family arrived on, and I cannot find the date of death for either Michael O'Keefe or his son.

Any connections out there?  I'd be grateful for any tips.

Carolyn
