Family History Beginners Board / Parents of Martha Mitchell 1815-1894
« on: Tuesday 03 September 24 13:50 BST (UK)  »
Can anyone help me find the parents of Martha Michell? According to the 1841-91 censuses she was born in South Shields, Durham in 1815, possibly 1821. She married William Frederick Windus in West Hackney, London 9 Nov 1833, and Henry Fromm in Gravesend,  Kent 22 Dec 1855. Parents possibly George and Elizabeth, but I'm struggling to find matches. Any details of parents, their marriage and their birth details greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

Benjamin Wells, born 21 Aug 1814, Bradwell, Great Yarmouth to Robert Wells and Ann. He married Sarah Ann Gage in1839. Anyone help with marriage details for his parents Robert Wells and Ann, and possibly their birth dates? Also, any other children apart from Benjamin? Can't seem to pin them down. Thanks.

Another query in this continuing story.
I can see from the quoted entry from FreeReg that Frances Grimes was born to Thomas Grimes and Mary Wilkinson. However, the only likely marriage for the couple seems to be Thomas Grymes and MARGARET Wilkerson, 17/11/1788, Burnham Overy, Norfolk, which is close to Brancaster and Holkham. I am assuming the Margaret/Mary could be another transcription error, or have I missed yet another marriage here??
Assuming this Wilkinson is the right person, there is a Margaret Wilkinson born to Samuel and Cecelie, bpt. 8/1/1767 Bedale, Norfolk. Bedale is in Yorkshire not Norfolk,, and on both Ancestry and Family Search, the transcripts state bpt. Bedale Norfolk, residence Bedale York.!! Anyone come across this duplication before or any explanation? Is it possible that Bedale Norfolk is short for Burnham Deepdale, which would again be the right area in Norfolk. But why the reference to Bedale York as residence?
As a footnote, there is another Margaret Grimes born to Samuel and Cecelie in 1761 but dies the same year. Again the bpt and burial records are Bedale Norfolk.
Thanks in advance for any expertise in unraveling this.

Thanks Radcliffe and Annette7.
Don't know how I missed that on FreeReg.
And the assumption about the Duntons seems very reasonable. It would certainly explain why I couldn't find him elsewhere. I am realising that mistakes like this happen a lot!

I'm returning to this old thread in the hope that someone can help me take these lines further back. Having now established the marriage of Robert Dunton and Frances Lake nee Grimes, I can't find any birth/baptism registration for either of them. Both are living in Brancaster, 1841-71.Details again:
Robert Dunton:
1841, born Brancaster abt. 1802.
No sign of him or family in 1851.
1861, born Holkham, abt. 1806
1871, born Brancaster, abt. 1804.
Frances Grimes:
1861, born Brancaster, abt. 1801.
1871, born Brancaster, abt. 1797.

Any help gratefully received.

Thanks again, Mabel Bagshawe. Good to have the details.
As I am a relative beginner to family history searching, I'm fascinated by where all this information comes from. In your last post but one about Harington, Robert and Henington, Edward, you are able to quote mmn as Butcher. Can you tell me where the mmn information comes from? It is obviously hugely significant in searching, and I so often only get a record with the father's name and mother's christian name. Sorry if this seems pretty basic stuff!
Thanks again for your work on this topic.

Thanks for this Mabel Bagshawe.
That now makes more sense of this family. I had recently found Ishmael Harrington marrying Sarah Weavers in Sudbury in 1859, and in 1871 in Lamarsh they are living with Esther, Sarah Weaver's daughter from a previous marriage. Wondered where all those early children came from. Marrying 2 Sarahs is just confusing...
