Staffordshire / Re: Help with William Fletcher Dudley around 1750
« on: Thursday 08 October 20 18:15 BST (UK)  »
Hi Colin,Not sure that William was born in Dudley specifically but more likely the Black country region in general, could be Wolverhampton area as this wedding is in Sedgley?(There is also an Oldswinford family link but these gravestones are from early 19th century.) It is believed that William was married previously and was a widower at the time of the marriage to Hannah. Perhaps Matthew might be to do with that? I will investigate that a bit more .

Staffordshire / Help with William Fletcher Dudley around 1750
« on: Wednesday 07 October 20 21:27 BST (UK)  »
Hi, can anyone help please? Looking for information on William Fletcher born in Dudley around 1750.
His son, John, married Ann Hornsby at All Saints Sedgley .
What we are looking for is information on Williams' wife-believed to be Hannah but Hannah what?
Also the names of Williams' parents. Can't find much info on locations but seems likely to be in the Dudley area and mining seems to be a likely occupation.

Herefordshire / electoral rolls?Advice needed please.
« on: Wednesday 13 March 19 22:14 GMT (UK)  »
As a last throw of the dice in attempting to trace 3 missing Mills family members post WW1, I am wondering if the electoral rolls for Collington Bromyard for 1919 or similar years might be able to help? or indeed the absent voters register for this period?
Would anyone be able to advise if these are held at Hereford archive or available online for a fee and,if so, what specifics I would need to know to make such a search as effective as possible ? (I know the 1939 registers can't help as the majority of family members had left the area by then.)

Staffordshire / Re: James DUNN b.abt 1743 Kingswinford
« on: Thursday 10 January 19 12:12 GMT (UK)  »
I am also descended from James Dunn(1743 Quarry Bank Kingswinford) who married Sarah Forrest in,I think,Clent in 1777.
My line is this one;
William Dunn (1703-?)and Mary Lynton
James Dunn (1743 Quarry Bank Kingswinford)and Sarah Forrest-original Dunns Bank
                                                                                              settlers.
William Dunn (1777/1779?-?)and Sarah Whittaker.(married Halesowen 18.9.1803)
                    They had 15 children( Phoebe 1804,James 1805,Emmanuel 1806,Samuel
                    1807,William 1809,Cornelius 1811,Joseph 1813died1813,Enoch 1814
                     Honour 1816,Elijah 1818,Henry 1821,sarah 1822died1824,
                     Myra 1824, Rosannah 1825, Hezekiah 1828 d 1829.
Virtually all of these remained in the general area and had between 7 and
11 children each, often with the same first names!

Samuel Dunn(1807 Quarry bank)and Sylvia Brooks m St Thomas Church
                                                                                Dudley29.07.1827 )
They had 11 children of whom my 3xggrandfather was the eldest.
I have details of the others but doubt they would be of interest to you.
Joseph Dunn(5.12.1827 kingswinford) m Eliza Hampton
Joshua Dunn(1885 kingswinford-1924 Dudley) m Mary Ann Priest.11 children
Kate Dunn 1889-1969 (My paternal grandmother.)

I still live in the area and the name Dunn is,unsurprisingly, exceedingly common.
Boundaries have changed quite a bit over the years meaning records for this area come variously under Worcestershire,Staffordshire, Dudley or Sandwell but anything featuring Quarry Bank, Lye, Kingswinford,Old Hill, Rowley Regis (Sometimes called Blackheath),Halesowen,Cradley,Cradley Heath,Dudley,Wordsley,Stourbridge,Clent are all in the right geographical area for any research you might do.

I am also a descendant of James Dunn via his son William who married Sarah Whittaker in sept 1803 in Halesowen so I found this thread of interest.
The name Dunn is very common in this area- not surprising since they nearly all had between 7-15 children ( My grandmother Kate Dunn was one of 11 children)A lot of the names repeat across the generations and most are biblical.

Leicestershire Lookup Requests / Re: Hackett marriage in Braunstone?
« on: Tuesday 27 November 18 19:32 GMT (UK)  »
Thank you all for this. That certainly adds to the bit of knowledge I had. I think I need an old map of the area in question!
Braunston and Braunstone, doesn't make it easy does it?
can anyone tell me the names of the churches that these records might refer to? I'm not very good with East Midlands geography and I'm guessing the boundaries will have changed over the years.

The information I have on the marriage is from Eldersfield parish register;
Joseph Hart, son of James Hart & Mary Davis, daughter of Thomas Davis 23rd Oct 1851

no witnesses given, just enough info to search deeper into the church records to find James Hart's baptism and his parents names.
