Alan I have worked on this since our last. I cannot find any connection between the HARFY family and my family of HARFFEY. I may be wrong but cannot connect any of the HARFY details. I am still trying to trace the details of William HARFFEY who had 5 children all baptised in Chichester. He died in 1816 but despite many enquiries I cannot progress without his details. Any information that may help would be greatly appreciated.. Thanks Bryan

Hi. I have been advised to e-mail you my problem by the Sussex branch of Rootschat. I am researching my family tree of HARFFEY. I have hit a stone wall trying to ascertain the details of William HARFFEY and Elizabeth (no maiden name known). They had 7 children--John b 1775, Elizabeth b 1778, Charles 1781, Harriett 1784, James 1785, Henry 1787 and Ann 1790. These children were all baptised in Chichester. There are no records of William and Elizabeth marrying there. The guy who carried out enquiries suggested that they could be from  the HARFY family from Petersfield. Could I ask that this family be looked at in an effort to identify this William and Elizabeth. I have been struggling with this now for a few weeks and seem to be getting nowhere. Any suggestions and /or information would be greatly appreciated.  Many thanks

Mike Thanks. I will try the HARFY family form Petersfield with the Hampshire records. Please send anything that you come across as it would be gratefully received and many thanks for your help thus far.

Mike your last helps some of the way. What I am desperate for are the full details of the parents William Harffey and Elizabeth (no maiden name). They are obviously not the couple married in London as you say. I think I should concentrate on getting these details from somewhere. Have you any suggestions? Would I have e-mail access to birth and death records from Chichester. It may well be that they never actually married (could be the case). I think my progress is to identify the parents and then move on from there. Sorry if this is confusing (tearing my hair out this end!!)  Thanks

Mike Thanks for that. It looks like William and Elizebeth only had the 5 children as per your christening records. The name Harvey may not be connected. Is it possible for you to give me birth/marriage/death details for the father Wlliam and also full name/ditto for Elizebeth (mother). Thanks its a big help.  Bryan

Sussex / Assistance Please with the HARFFEY family from Chichester

I'm hoping you can help me. I am researching my family tree but have come up against a brick wall. The relevant family is the HARFFEY family from Chichester. The last confirmed entry I have is for Elizabeth HARFFEY born in Chichester in May 1778 and christened at St. Peter The Great Church. As far as I can ascertain she had 6 siblings all born in Chichester. They were William b 1773, Thomas 1774, Charles 1781, Harriott 1784, James 1785, Henry 1787. Firstly can you confirm if these details are correct. Some records show that the parents of these were William HARFFEY and Elizabeth. This is where I have stumbled to a stop. Can you please advise as to who they were and any facts that would put me back on track. Possibly the father of William was Thomas Harffey. Again any info would be greatly received. I seemed to have got myself in rather a muddle at this point. Please help. Thanks you in advance.

Thanks for the prompt reply. The only details I have are as follows;-- William and Elizabeth were married as your reply. They had 9 children as far as I know-- John 1775, Charles 1781, Harriet 1784, James 1785, Henry 1787, Elizabeth 1778, Thomas 1774, William 1773 and Ann 1790. So as you are aware I have hit a wall with William apart from his death in Chichester in 1816 and his marriage. I can find no record of his parents, siblings or his birth. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks  Bryan
