Bookbox, thank you so much for that.  I had searched the internet, but was not able to come up with that!
Great help.

Handwriting Deciphering & Recognition / Problem reading old tenancy document
« on: Sunday 03 October 21 08:25 BST (UK)  »
This document, from manorial records, refers to John A Barton (Hadlow, Kent). I assume that it is concerning his tenancy of part of Jopes Tenement in Hadlow, but I am afraid that I am totally lost with it.
Can anyone make sense of it, please.
The actual event was late 1400's, but this may be a later transcription.
Any help appreciated.

Kent / Re: Oakwood Hospital, Maidstone, Kent
« on: Sunday 06 June 21 08:14 BST (UK)  »
My G Mother also died in Oakwood - in 1971.  She was a patient there due to dementia, and the subsequent inability of my mother to care for her.  I understood that most of the patients there were suffering from some significant mental problems.  The only other use for Oakwood was as a military hospital during wartime.  I closed long ago, and the records are archived, some at the National Archives (mostly pre 1950's), and some at the Kent County Council Archives & Local History:

Not sure if they have anything as recent as the date you require, but worth a try.  It may be that the Maidstone Borough Council have more recent records

Meanwhile you may be able to get considerable detail from a death certificate, available from the Gov Records Office (GRO).    That is where I started.

Good luck,
Michael (Also in Aus)

Thank you David,
That information is greatly appreciated - gives me plenty to work with on that line.

Hi, thanks for reply Dulverton,
I did subsequently resolve this issue, up to a point. I didn't ever find Hephzibah's baptism record, but I do know that she married James Pipe 20th May 1827 at Laxfield, Sfk.  he died of consumption 1st Sept 1842 at Fressingfield Sfk, and Hephzibah then married Wm Goodchild, as you rightly state.
As for her baptism/birth, other researchers state that her parents were Charles Cracknell and Elizabeth Baldry, who were married at Worlingworth 13th Nov 1799.
I did not follow this line back any further at that stage, but now I am more interested, especially in view of the lock-down situation (plenty of spare time :)).
Thanks for your interest.

Dulverton, Just to throw a spanner in the works, there is a marriage in Framlingham 4th Nov 1827 for William Pipe single age 23 and Anne Burrows age 21.  They can be found in the 1841 census and their first born is Jane (named after grandmother?).  This has always looked like the William who was the sixth born child of William Pipe and Jane Moulton.

Pam, I have received a copy of the death certificate for Sheridan Walter Pipe, died 1958 age 50, for whom we can find no birth record.  All it has done is to raise a further problem.  The informant is D S Pipe, who I think must be Derek Sheridan Pipe, who we had as the son of Charlotte Clayton, supposed second wife of Sheridan Walter Pipe b 1884.
So far so good, but then this D S Pipe says that he is the son of Sheridan Walter Pipe for whom I have this death certificate.
I think I must check the marriage of Charlotte Clayton in 1931, and the birth cert of Derek S Pipe, unless you already have copies - can you let me know.  Then maybe things might add up - perhaps!!

Only very distant connection Sheridan Walter snr is my 4th cousin 4 times removed, according to my genealogy software.

As for the offspring of Sheridan Walter Pipe & Frances Beasley, you probably have these already.   I have not followed these lines far , so details are scant:  There may be errors, but I think it is correct.

Frances b 1884 - married 1905 Henry Carter
Children: Henry Robert 1907, James Howard 1908, Sheridan John 1910, maybe more

Sheridan Walter b 1884
          Children 1st marriage:  Marie Violet  b 1902 m 1920 Sidney Silverton, Ivy Frances b 1904 m 1923 William Cowell Kirby, Florence Gladys b 1906 m 1926 Albert Grimsdale, Reginald Marcus b 1910 m 1934 Rosina Eleanor Clayton, Thora P b 1912 m 1932 Frederick W Goodenough, Irene D b 1913 m 1934 Sidney Crutchett.
           Children 2nd Marriage: Derek Sheridan b 1931 m 1956 Barbara A Rose

Charles Henry b 1886 - m 1905 Alice Blythe Palmer
Children:  Charles Josiah 1905, Alice Elizabeth 1908, Leonard Alfred 1910, Albert Osmond 1912, Sheridan George 1913.
Doris b 1890 - m 1915 Lewis Levy

John Marcus b 1896 - m 1920 Pauline Da Costa
          Child: Una Pipe 1921

Albert Edward b 1901 no information after 1901 census

You probably have most of this already, but maybe there are a few additional pieces for you.
