Kent Completed Lookup Requests / Re: Rochester St Margaret-CARTER Family
« on: Thursday 04 July 19 08:57 BST (UK)  »
Hello Bill, I gave up all the 'family tree' bit when I realised it was becoming a sort of obsession...... However, I do still (dabble on behalf of others).
I  have no records of the Carter connections that you mention but we only skimmed the surface of the Carters from Chatham/Rochester area. Would be good to talk though. You never know. I can share whatever I have got so far (it may take a bit of time to retrieve the data) but our Carter side ended up on the railways in Stratford, London & and then out to Essex after WW2.
Be good to hear from you.

Heh, thanks for the info. That helps build the picture. Its just a mystery that harriett was never spoken about in the family at all. Weird.

Family History Beginners Board / Blackwell/Marchant

Hi, I have a conundrum. Have been doing some follow-up research on my wife's tree and have discovered a 'step' aunt who is not recognised in the family memory.
Harriett Mary Marchant was born in Bromley by Bow 1911 to my wife's G/Dad, Henry Wm Marchant,  and his first wife, Betsy Wilson.
My wife's mother (Rose Marchant) never mentioned her in her lifetime but there is a record of a marriage in BMD to Reg Blackwell in 1933 and 2 possible death dates of 1940 & 1961.
Are there any Blackwells out there who have any family knowledge who could shed some light?

Thanks in anticipation.

Hi Tatt, I hear what you are saying. I went thru all this before the days of on-line data access. I am very mindful of the consequences of a 'bull in a china shop' approach.

I am leaving my friend to consider her options at the mo.

Thanx for yr advice.

Thanks Dawn. My friend has gone thru the adoption process but she was told that there was no further info. BMD shows Elizabeth L Hogg being born in Stepney 1920, her marriage to Ernest R Steele in 1942 & we are told via another link that they had 2 daughters.
I only have access to BMD and couldn't come up with anything specific. I'll ry yr suggestions.

I am in Essex and yes, it's filled up with Eastenders.

Thanks for yr interest.

Hi, I'm trying to assist a friend, who is adopted, to trace her birth tree. She has found her birth mother from Social Services but we now think her mother subsequently married and had a further 2 daughters (B Steele b1940'd & L Steele b1950's). The mother was Elizabeth Hogg (b1920 Mile End). She married Ernest R Steele in Stepney in 1942. We know it's a long shot but we cant find any subsequent marriages for B & L and time may be running out here.
Does this ring any bells? Any advice would be most welcome.
Thanks. Jim.
