Lincolnshire Completed Look up Requests / John Atkinson 1732 Waddingham
« on: Wednesday 21 April 21 23:19 BST (UK)  »
Please could someone check the Waddingham baptisms for 1732? Ancestry family trees report John Atkinson was baptised 27 April 1732 at Waddingham but neither the original nor transcript is on line except at "Lincs to the past" which is not showing the page. This would fit better than the other John Atkinsons. He lived his life at Waddingham and died 1816
Many thanks

Many thanks.
Her husband Jesse Pumphrey (1783-1866) was a millwright away working on the mills with one son. This Ann (nee Norman (Henry Dunton was her 1st husband )) was his second wife. His first wife was Ann Humphry (1783-1826).

Can someone please tell me what her job was?  Possibly Narm or Nurm or Harm, no of which make sense to me.
Thanks

Lincolnshire / Re: William Marshall & Sons (Grimsby)
« on: Tuesday 02 July 19 04:31 BST (UK)  »
My family goes back to William Marshall born 1764 or 65 near Snitterby. He died age 91 in 1856 near Snitterby and is said to have been blind. He was living with his daughter Elizabeth (1808-47) who married Richard Markham (1806-58).  William married Sarah Robinson (1769-1826). They moved around between Waddingham and Grimsby. He seems to have made money buying and selling mills. His son Andrew (1812-81) seems to be the one who took over the mills in Grimsby, and at probate had £15,000. The mills included Haven Mill, Crofts Mill and Victoria Mill in Grimsby.  His son John (1803-89) was a seed merchant and at probate had £400. Andrew's sons  John, Andrew T etc took over the mill etc. His son William R became a wealthy  merchant in timber etc in Grimsby and Scartho - at probate had £40,000.
William Marshall 1764 had a father William (1733-75) his will is available on line. His mother was Sarah Andrews (1733-1809) from Waddingham

The Common Room / Great Yarmouth shipping 1803 1824
« on: Sunday 11 November 18 01:18 GMT (UK)  »
Please can someone help with ships musters for 1803-24? William Edwards born 1785 was in Great Yarmouth, UK on the navy ship Majestic in 1803-6, then the Rodney 1810, then the Swiftsure 1812-4. At some stage he seems to have gone into merchant shipping because he is a mariner or sailor when his children are born, his wife was Mary. He disappears after 1824 when his daughter Emma Susannah Edwards was baptised in Gt Yarmouth.  The muster books for the Navy or Merchant shipping should have his record. Where can I find more complete copies especially for 1814 onwards please?
Many thanks

London & Middlesex Lookup Requests / Re: Elizabeth Ducker Valder 1791 to 1865
« on: Saturday 17 February 18 04:25 GMT (UK)  »
We went to the family history centre today and looked at the original marriage record for Ducker/Valder in 1817. Elizabeth Ducker was a widow so her birth name probably was Elizabeth Wrench; she married John Ducker in 1810. He died in 1815.  They seemed to have had a daughter Charlotte in 1809!.. He was serving in the navy on the Royal Charlotte yacht.

Thanks. That was 1796/7. The records for St Nicholas, Ash next Sandwich, Kent seem to be missing on line.

Thanks. His daughter was Charlotte too. She was born in 1809 and they married in 1810! She was baptised a few days after the marriage. It seems strange for a 51 year old to marry a 21 year old, but if it is them, they had a baby girl.

If the grandfather James died in 1790, my James wasn't born until 1796 or 1797. Perhaps he was a great grandson.  My James Valder was a silversmith in his early years suggesting he was well educated. He worked on The Wellington Shield  according to his obituary. It is very brief....

Canterbury Journal, Kentish Times and Farmers' Gazette - Saturday 07 June 1884
"The death is announced of Mr. James Valder, of Peene House, Newington, Hythe, in his 88th year. The deceased chased the portraits on the Wellington shield, presented by the Corporation of London to the late Duke of Wellington after the Battle of Waterloo. "
