Ancestral Family Tree DNA Testing / Re: I need someone who likes a challenge!
« on: Tuesday 05 December 17 20:18 GMT (UK)  »
Im not a DNA expert although I have helped my friend find her biological father through ancestry and I found my own great x3 grans maiden name so I thought I might add my two cents.

If you match on the X chromosome then you have not inherited it through your fathers father.

Youve inherited your X genes from both your mother's parents and your fathers mother. Search an X chromosome inheritance chart and you'll understand better.

The link would also exclude Edwin's paternal grandfather but not his parental grandmother or maternal grandparents or even his wife's parents?

Thanks.

Weird they had a son Richard too and I couldn't find reference to him in the registers.

Anyway that does not look like a family name. My great aunt said we're related to grandchildren of Mary so I thought to trace back but I will check out her husband now. Thanks for your help.

Hope I've posted this in the right place! A while since I've been on here.

Her daughter Mary was christened 1860 in Annagh, Mayo. Husband was Peter.

Grateful for any help.

That's amazing! Thank you. I'm going to try and find out more about that area in 1887 and keep trying to find how he fits into the family.

Oh wow! Ok so that makes less sense to me now (although obviously right)

Did any of these notices give an age? The youngest son I have for Bernard is Peter born 1852. Could Peter have renamed himself Bernard ??? or am I missing a baptism record.

So this is the brother Rev Eugene then? http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GSln=Maguire&GSfn=Eugene&GSbyrel=all&GSdyrel=all&GSob=n&GRid=85567197&df=all&

This is from the Irish-American newspaper

MC GUIRE June 13 1888, at Opobo, W.C. Africa, Dr. Bernard MC GUIRE, youngest son of Bernard MC GUIRE, Lisduff, county Westmeath, and brother of Rev. Eugene of New York.

I don't even know where to begin looking. I'm trying to figure how the connect to my family. A mother's name would help or if any other nieces or nephews went to join them.

Why was Bernard working in Nigeria? Would that mean he was working for a British company/army?

Where would he have trained to be a doctor? Everyone else was a farmer...

This looks to be his older brother Eugene McGuire in 1880

If you google Rev Eugene McGuire he seems to have moved around parishes a lot in NYC. He was in Brooklyn from 1849-1852.

And that is all I have.
