Is the black mark in the  marble not water damage ? I donít think much can be done about that.

Black staining on carboniferous stone used to be cleaned with a weak acidic solution (somewhat stronger than rainwater) until they realised that it was etching away the surface. Nowadays, itís removed by spraying it with plain water for an extended period.

Thank you RayT

Handwriting Deciphering & Recognition / Deciphering entry on Death Register

The attached is the parentsí section of the death register of my 3x great grandmother, Janet Morris, who died in 1891; the register notes that she was illegitimate hence no father mentioned. As regards her mother I can read the entry as far as ďAnn Morris afterwards married to George KinnairdĒ but Iím struggling with what follows. Is anyone able to help decipher it? Thank you.

Hi

On the attached 1881 Census I had originally thought the occupation of my ancestor James McKay, schedule number 19, was Vandriver. However on looking at it again it appears to be Vendriver not Vandriver. Does anyone know what a Vendriver did?

Thank you.
