Hi JRo10,

Hey cuzzie!  Distant cuzzie, but cuzzie nonetheless! Pleased to meet you! Kiltaglassan is correct in finding Charlotte Cassidy's birth and parents. Our common ancestors are Sarah Dunn's grandparents. It's been quite a journey to get there but I've been grateful for the Irish civil records coming online. The photo I have isn't fabulous for detail as it is a line up of people, but at least someone thought to name them!
Glad to have you on board. I have no idea if Sarah Chartres/Charters had any more children in her first or second marriage apart from Charlotte or which line you come from. But all in good time! Let me know if you have any questions or just want to chat. All those posts add up and give you the button to PM me.

Cheers,

Make that triplets!  Frances is also my fourth GG mother!!  Awesome!

Wow, Steve, you have done heaps of research that I had no idea existed.  Sea had just found our George being baptised in Ipwich, Suffolk and I had mused if they were visiting family.  You pop up and say that you believe the Priggs to come from Suffolk.  So there is every chance that they were visiting family or moved to be close to family at that point.  You got to Suffolk first so we are all playing catch up.

You mentioned William Frederick?  Is he a brother of Frances or a son?  I have to start making notes on all this so I don't get confused.  My FindMyPast sub doesn't have access to the newspapers (how annoying) so I will have to cart myself off to a Family History Centre to get access.

Cheers,

Hi Steve,

So sorry to have missed you in the mix!  I'm so interested to hear what you know about our mystery family and their amazing name change act, particularly of Charles the musician because he used the surname Prague (son of Charles the Revenue guy), and his siblings (as I am missing heaps of dates for them).

PM me if you want to do that instead of chat online.

Cheers,

Do you know, I have absolutely no idea!!!!  ;D  Ha ha ha ha!!!

I'm busy looking through the site to see what else I can find.  Have not come across any marriages as yet.  Not sure if the site has them for me to check.  Can't find them on ordinary Familysearch to have a comparison.

Cheers,

Hi Ian and JM,

Ian - You just may have cracked it!  I never knew about that Danish family site.  I will definitely go and have a look to see if even his wife is to be found there.

JM - Thank you kindly for your information.  It's much appreciated and I will put it against the other information I have received concerning the burial place.

Much, much gratitude to you both.

Cheers,

New Zealand Completed Requests / Re: Lookup Requests - Wellington Archives

And here is another one!  This time Robert Strathern is the one standing on the left.

From the same site: https://www.awm.gov.au/collection/P03236.177/

Extract of notation reads: Studio portrait of five Allied Prisoners of War (POW). Identified standing at back on left is R Strathern, 2nd Otago Battalion, New Zealand and on right is J. Atkinson, 17th West Yorkshire Regiment, England. Identified sitting at front, from left to right, is J. Young, Royal Canadian Regiment (RCR), 4512 Private (Pte) Percy Arthur Haslam, 54th Battalion, from Newcastle, NSW and F.A. Burt, 16th Canadian Scottish, Canada.

There are websites that provide more information on Dulmen camp, and that it is likely that Robert was captured at any of the battles of the Somme in 1916.  Potentially Fromelles...

Hi Michaela,

Don't often find this sort of thing - a photo of Robert Strathern actually as a prisoner of war in Dulman POW camp (he's the one sitting in the centre of the photo).  Taken about September 1917.

Found it here: https://www.awm.gov.au/collection/P03236.253.  All public domain stuff.  (Hope it is attached!)

Comes with the following annotation (cut down version):
Outdoor portrait of four allied Prisoners of War (POW) at a POW camp at Dulmen, Germany. Soldiers are gathered around a table covered with a tablecloth on which is placed a vase of flowers and four glasses of beer. The three soldiers on the right are holding cigars. Identified from left to right: 2729 Private (Pte) Oscar Keenan, 53rd Battalion, from Bengara, NSW (standing); Pte R. Strathern, 2nd Otago Battalion, New Zealand (sitting); 4512 Pte Percy Arthur Haslam, 54th Battalion, from Newcastle, NSW (standing); and 4151 Pte John Joseph Costello, 54th Battalion, from Sydney, NSW (sitting).  One of a series of over 400 photographs sent by Australian POWs in German camps to Miss M. E. Chomley, Secretary, Prisoners Department, Australian-British Red Cross Society, London. Original album housed in AWM Research Centre at RC00864, Album image number 304.
