Thank you Ian that's perfect, I didn't realise those records were on Ancestry, I guess I didn't spot them because of the mistranscription!

I have but no luck so far. There are hundreds of trees with them on and the information just seems to have been copied from tree to tree, so I have no idea who added the information in the first place. It's a bit like finding a needle in a haystack!

Worcestershire Lookup Requests / Feckenham marriage in 1728

Hello, I am looking for the marriage of John Search to Hannah Dyson, which apparently took place on 6 January 1728 in Feckenham according to some family trees online. However the transcription does not appear on Ancestry/FindMyPast/FamilySearch so I don't know whether this information is true or not.

Unfortunately the parish records for Feckenham for this period don't seem to be available online. I think my only other option would be to go to Worcester just for this one record (as I don't have any other ancestry in Worcestershire), so I would really appreciate any help!

Best wishes

The Common Room / Re: GRO website - problems?
« on: Thursday 21 January 21 23:53 GMT (UK)  »
Are you all using the full URL and https?
https://www.gro.gov.uk/

As opposed to a shortened URL (eg https://gro.gov.uk/) or http. Using the shortened URL I can get timeouts and/or certificate issues.

Also, URLs are case sensitive but it probably doesn't matter for the GRO website, given the technology they're using. It could matter but it'd depend on how they've configured it.
Neither of the links work for me, I get an error saying NET::ERR_CERT_REVOKED. I haven't been able to access the GRO since Friday last week. I've tried different browsers, different operating systems, and I've cleared cookies and tried incognito mode but I'm still unable to access the site unfortunately.

The GRO is also reported to be down here: https://downforeveryoneorjustme.com/gro.gov.uk

Is anyone able to access the site at all?

Essex Lookup Requests / Re: Essex Record Office Parish Registers lookup

Are you looking for a particular detail on the record as a tree on Ancestry has her full birth details etc plus parentage

She was 110yrs old when she died - birth 23.7.1897 death shown as 7.12. 2007 British Columbia - married name Hodgson

I am just looking for the baptism image so that I can confirm her date of birth (and they're usually more affordable than birth certificates), but yes that is the correct person - she did indeed pass away aged 110!

Essex Lookup Requests / Essex Record Office Parish Registers lookup

Hi there,

I am looking for the baptism of Dorothy Olive Trent, who was baptised St James, Forest Gate on 1 October 1897. I have seen a transcription of the record on Ancestry, and I think I have found the correct page on the Essex Archives parish records: https://www.essexarchivesonline.co.uk/Result_Details.aspx?ID=51877 (Page 42, Reference: D/P 596/1/4). However the site is subscription only, and unfortunately it's the only record they have that I'm looking for. Is there anyone who might be kind enough to send a copy of the baptism register image?

Many thanks  :)

The Common Room / Re: Late death registration/probate

I recently came across an entry of a person on the death index, where the death was registered in December.

If you're looking at an entry in the GRO death index, remember that a registration in December Quarter may relate to a death from the very end of September onwards. You will need to get the death certificate to find out if there was an inquest.
It is a very recent death however, in the last decade, where registrations of death are recorded by month rather than by quarter.

I wonder if there was an inquest or similar that held up the death registration. The death certificate would indicate this.  Probate cannot be applied for until you have a death certificate
The strange thing is that there is an obituary online, including a date of the funeral to be held in July. Can a funeral still go ahead without a death registration, or if there is an inquest into the death?

I recently came across an entry of a person on the death index, where the death was registered in December. However, cross-checking with the Government wills and probate database, it seems they died in July and the probate wasn't granted until December. I'm not very familiar with the procedures around death/probate as I haven't had to deal with it myself yet. However, I was wondering why there might be a 5 month delay in a death being registered? Is this normal or unusual? For all other deaths that I have recorded, they appear to have been registered within a couple of weeks after the death.

Edit: I should also add that there is an obituary online, with details of the funeral to be held in July.

Thanks
