Thankyou very much for the latest info. I believe that the Lizzie Morris on the 1901 census is my grandmother, however i also think the Elizabeth Clark on the 1891 census is probably her too, otherwise why would a nine year old girl be living with someone else's family?

I didn't know about the Morris/Wood marriage or the births of Caroline Morris and Elizabeth Morris. I will certainly check this out, after all, anything's possible and it gives me a new take on the whole thing. Thanks again

Two years ago i asked a question about Edmund SALTER from Alberbury. A rootschat member called CIDERDRINKER gave me useful information from the 1891 Census saying that Edmund SALTER's partner was Sarah ROWSE. (the surname ROWSE being Sarah's maiden name). This information has now become very important to me as the name ROUSE has today cropped up from other research.

So my question today is.... How can i tell that Sarah's maiden name is ROWSE from looking at the 1891 census? I just can't work it out. Any help very gratefully received.... especially from CIDERDRINKER if you are still out there please

Hi Candrjm

Many thanks for your reply and information. I think this is definately the right family as Edmund Snr was a plasterer (marriage cert info). Maybe this Elizabeth Clark is really my Elizabeth Morris after all, although i still cannot find a birth under that name in the right place. Of all the censuses i have ever come across, the only constant information seems to be that she was born in Wellington, Shropshire. On the 1939 register she gives her date of birth as 5th April 1884, but i cannot say if that is true or not. Edmund Salter Snr left a will in 1894 leaving his pennies to Sarah Morris for the upkeep of children Nellie and Edmund, but strangely he doesn't mention my Elizabeth.

Hi Ciderdrinker,

Please would you be kind enough to provide me with the full 1891 census info for Edmund Salter and his family, as mentioned in the previous post.

Many thanks, Luckytibby

Wow, thanks for all the replies and information (some of which is new to me, thankyou). I need to ponder over it all. Edmund was listed as my grandmother's father on her marriage certificate, even though her maiden name was Elizabeth Morris?? As always, it gets complicated, and i cannot find her birth after years of trying. There seems to be more information around about Edmund so i thought i would investigate him to see if it comes up with something useful. He seems to have had a thing for ladies called Sarah, as i've come across four of them now.
