Trying to find out if my grandad JohnGunson Stephenson was involved in a court case as part of the miners lockout, either in 1920,or 1926.

Thanks for that reply.Could be why the records office was so cagey when I asked them to look, but I understood that near relatives could get permission to see the details.

Thanks again for your speedy response.Yes I know they were in Workington in 1939 & the child in 1921 was my mother.Maybe the stories passed on we're confused,by mistake or deliberately, but I know from mum' birth certificate where they were in 1921, but she seemed to remember as a child she lived in Hayton with her aunt for a period, supposedly whilst he was in Blencathra. She was confused sometimes, but not quite as confused as this seems to indicate.Anyway,I'll try the hospital links you gave me.Really do appreciate this.

Carlisle archives couldn't find any admission record for him at all,but my mother always said that he went there and had to sleep in the garden in a special hut when he came back home.I know he was a miner & involved in the miners strike around 1923,maybe he went to jail and that was a story they told to cover that, but can't find any record of that either,Never realised my grandad was such an enigma
