Thank you for your replies.

For the baptisms in the range I am looking for it just says 'Held by the Public Record Office in 1919.' - any idea if they still survive as I know some were destroyed?

Thanks,
A

Thanks all,

Yes it's transcribed as Inocatta but if you compare the 'm's in the document it is actually Mocatta.

The nearest connection I can find is that the Whartons were living fairly close (Hamilton Terrace) to the Mocattas (Hamilton Square)...it just seemed a very odd choice of middle name unless there's more of a connection somewhere

I will keep looking! Thanks

Cork / Bantry Church of Ireland records

Dear all,

Does anyone know where the CofI records for Bantry area are kept/whether they are online?

I am looking for a John Jones born around 1801 in Bantry (could be RC but I think probably CofI), son of Thomas, a soldier, and Margaret Jones (who were also married in Bantry around 1799-1800).

Thanks,
A

Her baptism record has it written as Mocatta.

Yes I have searched censuses but cannot find any connection so far!

Dear all,

I am looking into an ancestor Rose Mocatta Wharton, born 18 November 1868 in Birkenhead, daughter of Thomas and Catherine Wharton. Her unusual middle name suggests some connection to the Mocatta family (Jewish bankers) but I cannot find any link so far.

Her father Thomas Wharton was born around 1841 in Liverpool and was a coal merchant, son of James Wharton, paver(?). Catherine was born Catherine Maxwell born in Ireland and the daughter of John Maxwell, Gardener.

If anyone has any ideas as to why she was given the middle name Mocatta I'd be very grateful!
Thanks!

Wales / Rev Henry Powell of Llandrillo d.1582
« on: Monday 30 November 20 19:24 GMT (UK)  »
Dear all,

I am trying to find some information about Henry Powell who was Rector of Llandrillo, Merionethshire 1557-82 and who in his will in 1582 had property in Merionethshire, Denbighshire and Flintshire (so obviously from a wealthy family!).

He was 'absent studying at Oxford' in 1560 and graduated with BCL in 1565 (but no record of his parentage in the Alumni Oxonienses), and was appointed chaplain to the Earl of Arundel in 1560.

His executor was John Powell a kinsman who lived in the Llandrillo area too - other than that no other leads locally.

I wondered if he was related to Powells of Kelystryn (in Dwnn's visitations vol 2 p 311) but can't find anything and hoping someone will be able to find something!

Thanks
A
