My tree may be the other one! I am trying to work back to find where I got those names.

Thanks to DNA testing we now know that Robert Houston was my great grandfather. That explains why so many Houston descendants are my top Matches on ancestry and elsewhere. I'm delighted to discover this and be able to place him in great grandfather position on my tree.

I've also been researching this family. A descendant of William Fletcher's posted a great old photo of William's brother Isaac Fletcher 1800=1880 on ancestry and they agreed to let me copy it to Old Families of Dumfries Facebook page. Isaac was married to Jean Graham. Isaac and William's brother John is my g g g g grandfather - he married Helen Pauling.

Kirkcudbrightshire / McGuffog Dalbeattie
« on: Monday 19 February 18 18:34 GMT (UK)  »
I am getting Matches via DNA testing to the McGuffog family which was the descendants of John McGuffog (1845 Anwoth-1907 Dalbeattie and his wife Revena McGaw. Married 1867. I have found info on their children Janet William John Elizabeth Maxwell James and an infant Robert, but there was also another Robert McGuffie (b1892 at 17 Mill Street, Dalbeattie I think). I am drawing a blank looking for any other information on him although I wonder if he is the Robert McGuffog boarding with his sister Elizabeth  (married to Hugh Thomson) in the 1911 Census (Dalbeattie). I'd be helped by knowing who lived in Port Street, Dalbeattie around the turn of the century, and whether Scotts and McGuffogs crossed paths there! Would that info be on valuation Rolls, and if so where can the ones for Dalbeattie be accessed???

Thank you so much, that's great. Amazing how they started here and have spread out across Canada, NZ and goodness knows where else.

Ancestry DNA test results tell me I'm quite closely related to this family!! And certainly they seem to have lived around Kirkcudbrightshire, Scotland, where I come from and still live near! I'm researching as many of the older people as I can to try and ascertain what the link might be. I seem to descend from the couple who are Mary Mundell Houston and Peter Little, Mary being the daughter of Jane Houston d 1911 ( only a few miles from where I was born 43 yrs later! Delighted to find this thread and all the information. And I'd love to hear from any one of this family.
