Family History Beginners Board / Dodds of Bellingham
« on: Monday 26 June 23 19:20 BST (UK)  »
Hello, My family of Dodds come from in and around Bellingham, ie Wark I am just wondering if they were involved with the Border Reviers. Is there a database of court records or names of well known troublemakers!
They may have not been involved but I have Ridley surname too in my history which I believe they were involved in Border Rievers too.
I just wonder whether records would have been kept or have they disappeared?

Thank you so much for your help. I think Nolin is French too. I have been coming to a brick wall time and time again.
What I do find interesting is I believe Marcella and Donald were Catholic and therefore their daughter Mary was probably baptised Catholic, but Mary’s daughter Emily married a Huguenot descendant and Mary and Emily became Protestant.
I would love to find out more about them as my Grandmother ( Emily’s daughter) would tell me that her Great Great Grandfather was killed by a bear in Canada, it could be just hearsay but who knows.

Thanks I have just seen that the name McDonnell is mentioned, how can I follow that line in Ontario?

Hi thankyou everyone you have got the right Allar’s, but I am really stuck on how to find Marcella Nolin and Donald McDonald, as there are lots of McDonalds in the Ontario records do you think by cutting it down to the Donald McDonald would there be less with that name?

Hello I have hit a brick wall. All I have is a typed copy of a Certificate of Birth and Baptism, dated 27th May 1844, was baptised Mary born the 26th instant of the legitimate marriage of Donald McDonald and Marcella No’lin the1st. Concession of Kenyon.
Sponsors: Angus Williams and Mrs. Catherine. Signed J. McDonald, Priest. Place of Baptism St Finnan’s Cathedral, Alexandria, Ontario.
I don’t know where to start! My Great +2 Grandmother who’s Baptism it was, married to a Henry Fletcher and their daughter Emily Mary was born in Toronto and moved to London with her parents and married Henry E  Allar a Huguenot descendant.

« on: Sunday 28 October 18 19:00 GMT (UK)  »
Hello I found that my ancestor though marriage was Connie Gilchrist an Artists model and later Gaiety Girl, and eventually Countess of Orkney. Her mother and sister were models for Frederic Leighton. Rumour has come down the family that Sir John Everett Millais Painting of The Princes in the Tower artist models were my relatives too and that one was a girl model! How can I find any records of this if possible. Thankyou

Where did you get the original info from?
Hello, thankyou for replying. I got the information from family members, including my mother who is the Granddaughter of Matthew Philipson Junior. She also has a photo of them with banners on a march with about a dozen others.

Family History Beginners Board / Settlingstones Mine Strike
« on: Tuesday 05 June 18 22:22 BST (UK)  »
My Great Grandfather Matthew Philipson and his Father also Matthew Philipson and other family members formed a strike at Settlingstones Mine in Northumberland and the Philipsons were banned from working at the mine in future years. I have found information on a strike in 1939 but this was before this date as my Great Grandfather died in 1926.
I wonder if anyone called help me with these research. Thankyou
