World War Two / Victory Parade North Africa Campaign
« on: Friday 23 April 21 18:47 BST (UK)  »
Hi
can anyone think of a parade with Montgomerie in 1943 taking the salute in N Africa sometime after El Alemain and before invasion of Sicily. The parade was reported on Cinema news reels in the UK.

My Mother in law says she saw her husband on his tank (3CLY tank regiment) but cant remember the date or the News report - Pathe etc.

Thank you
Tom

Renfrewshire / greenock Old west Kirk Burial Ground
« on: Sunday 07 March 21 14:50 GMT (UK)  »
Hi, I'm trying to find some information on the removal of the Old West Kirk Burial ground in Greenock in the early 1920s. I understand that the remains were re-interred in the Greenock cemetery along with most of the memorials. Can anyone point me to online details of this/ photos of the old burial ground and/or location of burial records.

Many thanks

Where can I find information regarding the Dalkeith Militia around 1869. I think their correct title was Edinburgh or Queen's Regiment Light Infantry Militia.

Armed Forces / Army births in Ireland

My gggrandfather was in the 92nd rgt(Gordon Highlanders) and posted to Fermoy barracks in Cork around 1847 and I believe his wife and son accompanied him there. A census states that his daughter was born in 1851 in Ireland.   Where can I find details of the 92nd stay in Fermoy and how does one find birth details for children of soldiers in Ireland?

I take it that  "The Army Medical Services" is a reference work and FA Crew the author. I'll have to wait to visit Kew as I'm in Glasgow.

Do you know if there are any medical records for individuals still available?

I have seen the warlinks link before and from that (before I knew what RHU meant) had assumed that he had gone with the regiment all the way to Germany before the end of the war. He must have been sent back to the hospital for whatever reason and then put in the discharge route. Incidentally he was discharged as B1 so probably got an accelerated discharge as he was'nt fit for occupation duties. But as you say supposition.

Many thanks again

hi Max

many thanks for that info . The only records we have from our application for his service record and the only details of his postings are what I posted. However we do know that he was in the Brussels area in Aug 45 as he was befriended by a Belgian family and his daughter (my wife) is named after their daughter.  There is a story that his being in a hospital saved his life but from the record he was in the 108 after the war ended.  He was not wounded but we think he suffered from an ulcer.

I suspect that we are not going to get any medical records so will never know exactly what happened.

Many thanks again for your help.

Tom

HI Max,

The only other record is the one below the ADS lines. The next col has a stamp saying he was released to class Z  Royal Army Reserve 27/2/46 ( Class A release). I also have Notification of release form stamped  "Military Dispersal Unit Edinburgh 30/11/45" and overstamped  " Cavalry & Royal Armour ?? barnet herts 3/12/45".

Regarding the 37 RHU am I correct in thinking this was part of 3cly and that after the breakout from Normandy he would just rejoin the 3cly and then 3/4 cly when they were amalgamated.
