Is it census for England or Ireland? Was he born in Ireland?

Ireland. Yes we presume he was born in Ireland.

It's an interesting question.

My great-uncle was born in late 1884 and emigrated to Canada at age 20.
He was therefore coming up to 30 when he enlisted in the Royal Canadian Engineers six weeks after the declaration of war.  He gave his younger brother's date of birth: late 1886.
Why would he do that?  Could it be that promotion to officer was open only to those under 30, or was there some other reason for fibbing?

Lol ancestors really baffle me!!

Sorry at work so on and off

Not of my grandmas siblings no, some married there but then came here as well as her mother and father... just don’t no any particular dates as to when they came. My gran married in 56 over here. I am just slowly getting some electoral registers sorted.
I moved on to my grandads side as they have been a little easier to trace plus it’s where I live so easier accessing resources too

Buttermilk lane. My gran was only born in 1933.
I think it is listed actually on Margaret’s death record where daughter is listed as living at the time of death

Yes this was my issue as there are tons of Thomas and David powers in Waterford.
I wish they had had a more unusual first name then it may not be so difficult to trace who is the right one etc etc

That's where addresses come into play!

Yes and I wish my family had left me a road map but only gave me the childhood home they grew up in which is a lot later than any of this info sadly

The Common Room / Re: Ancestry - information added to my family tree not by me

I’m intrigued by this also so updates would be good.

When I am on my friends ancestry looking at info some of the hits on my own tree have errors of displayed info like yesterday it was showing as an American address when it is Irish. Logged out and went to my tree but couldn’t find where this info was listed as the addresses on the person were ireland as they should be.
I want to invest in a good ‘offline’ tree builder and just use ancestry for looking up documents

This one has happened a lot in my tree - I input the address as xx, xxxx, co xxxx, Ireland, and ancestry shows it in the summaries etc, as U.S.A (mainly Colorado!)

Yeah it’s baffling then I’m thinking there is hidden info on my tree because of it. So annoying!

An 1890 Waterford marriage of Richard Carbery to an illiterate Margaret "Nott" nee Hunt, widow, has been posted on the other thread. http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=802006.18

Yeah I seen this one. Need to go through all the links and see if dates and stuff match up. Hopefully they do then I’m a tad further in to the rabbit hole of my Irish side
