I have a relative who put his mum's name on the marriage certificate. I can't find anything that happened to her.

I have another that put who I assume is her real dad on it. Hannah Parkinson put her dad as William Whitehead. No idea when he came from.

The best I've seen is an ancestor's husband putting 'can't remember' as father's name.

EDIT: I see her in Birkdaie in 1891.....
I have a relative who is seen in 1851 with his mum and siblings and then is missing until 1906 when he is buried with his sister and her family.

Thanks for the post on this thread Cath. I think Mangan and Mannion were interchangeable. I've seen the 1921 census for Patrick and he signs as Mannion yet all of his children were registered Mangan throughout the previous 15 years.

He was from Mayo according to the 21 census.

Could you tell me where your family are from please? I have two branches of Mangans on both sides of my daughter's family and they both ended up in Leeds.

At the opposite end of this, all 8 of my great grandparents were born in the 1900s, 5 of them in the 1910s and 2 in the 1929s. My daughter was born 92 years after my great grandma was born. So 5 generations were born in under 100 years. That's not a long time I don't think.

My great grandma is down as 'adopted daughter' and for parents living it says 'both alive' even though her mum died and that was the reason she was adopted. Her dad and adopted dad worked together and her mum died in childbirth which is the reason for her dad to ask the adopted parents to care for her.

I've looked all over the 1921 for Bether with no success. Her mum had died the previous year and the man who would be her dad doesn't have her there.

My great great granddad died of paralytica in 1927. He was in his late 40s when he died and had  been married 23 years. He had had 3 children and his wife lived until 1945.

Would he have caught syphilis after his marriage and not from his wife as she lived so long after him? He died in High Royds Asylum and his records show him as having dementia like symptoms and being very unclean.
