Hi ,
My Grandfather was Thomas Smith(Morfey)from Rye Sussex, he joined the army as Morfey but went AWOL and joined the Navy as Smith and stationed in Devenport ,he was a stoker on HMS Benbow and when docked in Greenock Scotland he met my future G/Mother Annie Hunter Barrie .He left the navy and joined the coastguard on the Isle of Wight and the had 5 children ,Thomas died in 1952 at my mothers house in Playden ,Sussex.

I have more Morfey(Leadbetter) family history going back as far as  Elijah Morfey born 1803 from the Playden /Peasmarsh /Rye area if anyone would like it .

I am new to this so don t know how people privately contact each other with Information.?

Hi ,
My grandfather was Thomas Morfey he changed his name to Smith  when he absconded from the army to join the navy ,I have no army or Navy records for him ,I never met him as he died before I was born but my older brother Fred knew him and my mother nursed him until his death at our house in Playden .

I have my family tree on Ancestry which you could look at.
