Carmarthenshire / Re: THOMAS Family of Llanelly
« on: Thursday 22 July 21 15:28 BST (UK)  »
Hi there!  I am a descendent of the Meyler family of Pembrokeshire and Carmarthenshire, and it sounds like Owen Meyler’s descendents were a Thomas family who lived in Bwlch y Gwynt.  Just started to research this connection, but would love to hear from anyone who connects to this family.  Owen Meyler is my 7X GGF, and he lived at Longford Farm in Llanddewi Velfrey, where he died in 1804.

Wales / Emanuel Evans...mystery preacher from Anglesey!
« on: Friday 29 March 19 16:49 GMT (UK)  »
My 5X GGF is Emanuel Evans (~abt.1763-1836).  With help from rootschat members, I was able to identify him and have since spent a couple of years researching him.  I have his will, biography, death bond (no will), electoral roll, handwritten letters by him applying to preach in Amlwch, Anglesey, notes taken on his sermons, Amlwch 1801 census, his marriage record, countless records of him preaching all over North Wales, traveling with Rev. Christmas Evans (famous minister from that time), etc.  But, for the life of me, I cannot figure out where he was born, and I have grown quite fond of Emanuel.

The "Brief Biography" from "Brief Biographies of the first Calvinistic Methodist preachers on Anglesey" says that he is a native of Amlwch, but he was married in Llansannan, Denbighshire in 1785.  That marriage record says he was a bachelor of Llanrhaidr.  I've checked all over both Llanrhaidr's and back, with no luck.

Recently, Y-DNA confirmed that Emanuel Evans likely descends from Quakers in Dolgellau (or their ancestors).  My Dad matched with multiple descendents of Robert Ellis, born 1651 in Dolgellau.  Robert Ellis came to settle in the Welsh Tract after William Penn in 1690.  I have no idea when/where the connection was, but I am officially stuck.  There is a possible baptism of an Emanuel Griffith in Llanystumdwy in 1761, but I believe that I found that Emanuel Evans at a mill nearby - still checking that out though.  With patronymics and possible Quaker connections I am at a loss for where to look next.  Were there Quakers near Bala?  Are their other sources I should check?  Can anyone recommend places to look/things to try?  I would so appreciate the help!  We have an Evans/Morgan family reunion in June and I am compiling everything on Emanuel to share.  No one in my family knows anything about him, and I am glad that he won't be forgotten!

Herefordshire / Morgan's of Leominster/Eardisland, Herefordshire
« on: Saturday 22 December 18 18:52 GMT (UK)  »
Hi everyone!  I have been trying to connect my Morgan line to some of the more documented Morgan lines.  Oral history says we do connect to the Morgan's of Tredegar, but at this point the dots don't connect.

Richard Morgan, born around 1743 (unsure of location) is as far back as we have been able to trace.  And I think one or two more generations back would be the connection to the other lines.  He was married in Leominster to wife Martha Bevan in 1785, and children were James, Henry, William, Richard, and Ann.  I am a descendant of his son Henry, born in 1792.  I have found some autosomal DNA connections to those with well traced Morgan lines, but we just haven't been able to connect.

I see a possible link on ancestry to a William Morgan, born in 1725, but can't confirm that this is accurate.  Can anyone see if they can find the birth record for Richard?  No clue where he was born, but would love to learn more.  And/or does anyone have them in their tree?  Richard's descendants lived in Eardisland, Herefordshire for a long time, and then moved to Aberdare, Glamorgan, Wales to work in the coal mines in the late 1800's.

Any other Morgan connections and resources would be welcome as well.  Thank you so much!

Anglesey / Re: Evans family of Gaerwen

Liverbirds -

I know this is an older post, but there may be a connection and thought it was worth a try...I haven't been able to locate a William Evans related to my line.  His birth date was 1803 (I believe, although I don't have the record in front of me at the moment).  Born in Trefdraeth, Anglesey - which is very near to the Newborough area.  Does this line up with your William's possible birth date?  If it is him, and we can certainly chat more to figure that out, his parents were Emanuel and Elizabeth Evans who lived at Tyn Llwyn, in Trefdraeth.  They do not show up in census records, other than in the 1841 census - Elizabeth, Thomas, and Evan Evans were at Tyn Llwyn in Trefdraeth (Emanuel had passed away a few years prior).  If you happen to see this, you can message me here, or find me on facebook: Heather DeFer is my user name.  Thank you, hope this proves a good connection for you!

Hi there, while doing research I saw your post pop up...a brother of my 4X Great Grandfather lived on Henwalia during the 1841 census as well, his name was Robert Evans.  He lived there with wife Ann, son Emanuel, and daughter Ann.  Am not sure what number they lived at...will come back and post if I figure it out!

Tall Al - In the memorial inscription book for St. Nidan's in Brynsiencyn, do you see where Joseph's actual grave is?  I see that you have C041 as the grave location, but I can't find a grave map anywhere.  He may be the only Evans of this family with an actual headstone...all of the others that I can find are buried at Trefdraeth, and do not have a marked grave, or a grave location (no memorial inscription for any of Joseph's siblings or parents in the Trefdraeth book).  Have a friend that lives nearby, said he would head over to the cemetery if I can give him a rough location.  Thank you!

Anglesey / Bontfawr - Need help finding Amlwch abode
« on: Thursday 12 July 18 19:47 BST (UK)  »
Sounds like two of my 5X Great Grandfather Emanuel Evans’ children (Thomas and Hannah Evans) both died in November of 1797 (20th and 24th), and Bontfawr was their abode.  May have been in Amlwch, or may have been near Llanerchymedd as I have seen reference to a minister named Emanuel Evans there.  He was a yeoman as well, so may have had a large or small freeholding.  Can anyone locate this home/Farm in the late 1700’s?  Two others (possibly farm workers) died at the abode in the same year, a Margaret Griffith and a William Painter, died 1797 at Bontfawr.

Also in the 1801 Amlwch census, It says Eman’l (Emanuel) Evans lived at Treydrath.  Was that Trefdraeth misspelled, or is that a different home/place name?

Thank you for any help you can send my way!  Emanuel is my brick wall, and this additional information may finally help me figure out who his parents are.
