Family History Beginners Board / Re: Maureen Fraser - fact or fiction???
« on: Saturday 27 May 06 07:08 BST (UK)  »
Thanks for the site.  Yes, I have tried them & others, but as Mum was only ever fostered they can't help me.  There was no records kept of fostering until after 1939 either, so I'm flying blind.  Those genealogists that I've paid have all said give up, but I'm hooked.  I'll keep trying maybe one day I'll get a break???

Thanks again.

Take care,          Sue...

Thanks, I had thought about that.  Trouble is so far I have found about 12 deaths for William Henry Dunns of various areas around London, from 1932 - 1945.  But as I don't know for sure where he ended up I'm only guessing.  It's going to be an expensive exercise unless I can find a way of narrowing it down.  But I'll keep looking, he has to be somewhere...
Thanks again for the suggestion.
Take care,        Sue...

Family History Beginners Board / Maureen Fraser - fact or fiction???
« on: Tuesday 07 February 06 01:10 GMT (UK)  »
Do you know of someone that gave birth to a baby girl at Sheffield St Hospital, London in the 1930's?  The only information Mum has ever had is what is on her birth certificate, I have paid genealogists to search only to be told that the mother’s name appears to be false.  The only other were stories her foster-parents told her when she reached the age of 17.  These also appear to be false.  I have written many letters to various people & places asking for any help they can give, all to no avail.

She was fostered by Minnie (Witmore) & James Storey from about the age of 6 weeks.  Mum believes it was from the Hospital & that it was possibly arranged by the same people who arranged her "brother's" fostering - Roy Gotch, later actually adopted by the Storey's.

Mum was named - Margaret Jean Fraser
Mother - Maureen Fraser
Living at - Westminster Bridge Rd was a Temperance Hotel in 1932.
Maureen listed her occupation as a Domestic Servant - there is no list of servants for that place found so far.  The 1931 census was destroyed by fire & 1941 was not done due to World War II.
Sheffield St Hospital is now part of the Middlesex Hospital Group & no records seem to have been kept each time the Hospital was merged with another more seem to have been lost.
It was unusual for a Matron to register a birth.

If anyone can help or offer suggestions that I haven't tried or those I've paid haven't tried I'd really appreciate it.

Thanks,

Family History Beginners Board / Lost - William Henry Dunn in London after 1932
« on: Tuesday 07 February 06 01:03 GMT (UK)  »
Lost my grandfather in London.  William Henry Dunn left 2 of his children in an orphanage after his wife died in 1931 & disappeared.  He supposedly re-married & had another family - have so far been unable to prove/disprove this due to his common name.  I have managed to go back further but would like to finalise this line. Below is what I know/have proved.  Any ideas would be much appreciated on how to find his death.
