Hi DoireM,

Thanks for such a speedy response. I had wondered if the thread was still active.
I'll take a look at the library site so thanks for the heads up on that. I usually try to stay off FB...but I suppose needs must ::)
See you on there soon,
ColinDV

Hello all,

I found these posts whilst looking for details of my mother's side of the family. I hope this thread is still active.

My mother, Bernadette, was born in 1925 to John Joseph Harhen [1895-1967] and his wife Margaret (nee Doohan) [1892-1986] They lived in Cloonbooly at the time when I visited as a child in the 60's.
My mothers siblings were Christie (Christopher), Frank, Mary, Teresa and Catherine Christine.

I'm told that John Joseph's siblings were John, Ellie, Delia, James, Margaret, Martin, Mary, Michael, Norah, Thomas and two named Kate. The first Kate died as a child and a later daughter was given the same name.

I think that some of the sons emigrated to Australia and some (maybe the same ones) emigrated to New Zealand.

From the 1911 census there is a house 6 in Slievealoughaun (Kinturk, Clare) which shows the residents as:
Harhen  John  age 70  male  Head of family  R. Catholic
Harhen  Norah  age 33  female  Daughter  R. Catholic
Harhen  Michael  age 24  male  Son  R. Catholic
Harhen  John  age 16  male  Son  R. Catholic
Harhen  Catherine  age 14  female  Daughter  R. Catholic
Harhen  James  age  male  Son  R. Catholic

This matches up so well that I think it might be the right family. Does this match up with anyone else's information? It would be so helpful to have some independent confirmation.
