World War Two / Military Headstone
« on: Friday 30 September 22 22:58 BST (UK)  »
I have recently discovered that my Husband's late Uncle was killed in Action whilst serving as a Gunner in the Royal Regiment of Artillery in 1941. His burial site is mentioned on the Commonwealth War Graves Commission site but he does not have a Military Headstone.  Is there any reason why he would not be entitled to one? Thanks for any information you can supply.

Family History Beginners Board / Re: Parents of Elizabeth Ann powell

Thanks Sam, you have given me a few births which I will try to follow up. One of the Electoral Register entries in Swansea shows her name as Nancy but other documents show her name as Elizabeth Ann. I have a photo of her at approximate late teens which seems to indicate she was a servant, this would be around 1911 census. Her marriage in 1918 gives address as Llanfrynach so think it's likely she was from that area originally. I really appreciate your help, and welcome any further ideas you may have.

Hi, I posted some time ago for help in tracing my Maternal Grandmother. Unfortunately I am still searching. I have recently accessed the 1921 Census for her which gives her age as 26 years and 9 months, which now suggests she was born in September 1894. Her date of birth on 1939 records was given as 1/9/1893. Her age at time of Marriage on 6/8/1918 was given as 23 on Marriage Certificate, no details of Father only shown as deceased on Certificate. Her birthplace on 1921 census was given as Upper Chapel, Breconshire. I believe it's possible she may have been working as a servant in 1911 for the Whittal family in Clyro Herefordshire but cannot find her birth record or 1901 Census. I have ruled out the Birth in 1895, maiden name Rumsey.
If anyone has any further suggestions I would be grateful as I have hit a brick wall. Many thanks

Breconshire Lookup Requests / Birth registration district

Hi, I have eagerly downloaded the 1921 census for my Grandparents. My Grandmother gives her Birthplace as Upper Chapel Breconshire in 1894.  Could anyone please advise which district this would come under.  Thanks

Thank you all for your help, you have confirmed my suspicions. I think I will need to obtain a copy of a birth certificate to be certain.

Family History Beginners Board / Parents of John Havard, Brecon area

Hi, hoping someone may be able to trace the parents of John Havard born 1887.

He died 18/12/1959 age 72 in Llanfrynach, Brecon.
He was married aged 23 on 07/12/1910 in Brecon Registrar Office, his father is shown on the Marriage certificate as John Havard.
1911 Census shows his age as 23,birth place shown as Merthyr Cynog, living with his wife Emily in Llanfrynach.
1939 shows his date of birth as 02/05/1887.

I originally thought his birth was registered in Builth in 1886 11b page 91, parents John and Margaret (Nee Williams) but 1911 census shows they had 9 children and only 7 were still alive. I have found a burial for a John Havard age 21, buried 25/09/07 aged 21 in St Marys, Crickadarn, and Helena Maud Havard aged 4, so believe these could be the two deceased children.

I believe his birth should have been registered in Brecknock but have been unable to find any record in 1886/1888.
I would be grateful for any tips as I have hit a brick wall. Many thanks

Breconshire / Re: elizabeth ann powell baptised Aberedw 1893
« on: Wednesday 25 April 18 20:14 BST (UK)  »
Hi, yes it is the same person. The only dates I am certain of  was her marriage took place on  06/08/1918.  Her age on marriage certificate appears to be 23 which suggests she was born 1894/1895. I know she passed away on 06/06/1953, Death Certificate shows age as 60 which suggests she was born 1892/1893.  The 1939 census shows date of birth as 01/09/1893 which would mean she died aged 59.  Her marriage certificate shows she was living in Llanfrynach.  Father shown as deceased on marriage certificate, no name given.
If you have any suggestions I would appreciate your help.
