Hi, thanks for the reply. This James Siggs was born 1798 in Haverhill (conviction says 1799) parents Thomas and Hannah. Hannah died 1800, Thomas 1804. No parents from a young age. He was convicted  21 October 1836 in Cambridge, not too far from Haverhill. His brother was a shoemaker so that is possibly correct.

James Siggs arrived on this ship Feb 1838. He had been transported for life. Does anyone have any details about him. Did he gain freedom, marry, stay in Australia. Did life mean life ? I can find no record of him returning to the UK. He was born 1798, Haverhill, Suffolk. Thanks

It's been a while and I can't remember where we left this conversation but; I have done a lot more research on this and have a constructed a reasonably extensive tree around the Siggs of Haverhill which you can now see on Ancestry under 'Siggs of Suffolk and Cambridgeshire'. I eventually found a baptism for Matthew and it was 1745 and he is the same man who was buried at Shudy Camps in 1826. If anyone wants to find out more about Siggs of Haverhill I continue with my search and will eventually extend the 'branches' that aren't mine but bear that name. Please get in touch if you want information or have information. I am unable to go back further than Obadiah Siggs 1650 though I believe his father may have been John.

Fairport Convention (the band) mention and have a photograph of George Wyatt of West Harptree on the notes of their album 'Liege and Lief', a Victorian 'songster' apparently.

I'm looking at old research, I have Mathew as having a brother, John, born circa 1742. No idea where I found this information though ! Parents, John Siggs and Ann Whiffen.
