Lancashire Lookup Offers / Re: Ford & Yew Tree Cemetery Records
« on: Saturday 29 December 18 14:13 GMT (UK)  »
Hi David.
Charles & Agnes are both in public graves so it is unlikely that they would be buried there with family members.
Charles was interred in pubic grave BZ 3135 on 17/5/1901 aged 42. He died at 23 Epsom Street.
Agnes was interred in public grave X38 aged 43 on 18/3/1903 She died at Liverpool workhouse L3.

Thank you so much! Where did you find the information about her being in a workhouse?! This is the first we've heard of this!! Please send me a link to your source, that's fascinating...thank you for digging that up. My Gran was quite small when her parents died, and remembered them vaguely...she ended up in the Billing Orphanage until she was a teenager...and she never had a good thing to say about the nuns.

Agnes Graham aged 43 was buried at Ford on 18th March 1903 plot X38.  That means she was buried on the day she died if your date of death above is correct?

Thank you for that. Looking back at my files, I have her as dying on the 13th...interesting that she would not have been buried with or next to her husband...I wonder why? And if either have headstones?

Durham Lookup Requests / Re: William Veitch Wilson (Sea Captain )
« on: Friday 28 December 18 16:54 GMT (UK)  »
From the Honour Roll of the Fleetwood Salvation Army I have reason to believe William Veitch Wilson was on the ship the Duke of Albany ( an Armed Boarding Steamer) during WW1 when it was sunk by a torpedoe from a German submarine (UB27) on the 2/10/1914 20 miles of the Pentland Skerries. There were 24 men killed but William survived. Can any one tell me any more about this incident? How the other were rescued etc. Even whether William would have been concidered to be in the Royal Navy or it they stayed in the Merchant Navy when their ships were requisitioned.
Thanks Virginia

Hello, I can tell you just about all you wish to know about the Duke of Albany and the sinking. My grandmother's brother was one of those killed when. I went to the NationalArchives when I was in London last year, and photographed every page of the inquiry into the sinking. I don't have them on this computer as I'm in the middle of switching between my old laptop and my new one (my Xmas to myself!) but I will have a look this afternoon.

Hello Marienne,

Very kind of you to make the offer. My maternal g-grandparents are buried in Ford: Charles Graham, Section B, Grave 3135, d. buried 17 May, 1901; does the microfiche have any additional information?
Also, his wife, Agnes Graham (Regan), d. 13 March and buried 18 Mar, 1903, but I do not know her plot information.

Much thanks in advance!
David Green

Hello all.

My maternal g-grandparents are buried in Ford Cemetery; from the reading I've done at http://freepages.rootsweb.com/~liverpoolindexes/genealogy/ford.html apparently 2/3 of the graves never had markers. I know that my g-grandfather, Charles Graham (d. 17 May, 1901) is buried in Section B, Grave 3135; his wife Agnes (d. 18 Mar. 1903) is buried at Ford as well, but I don't know where.

Does anyone familiar with the graveyard, and that section, know if it has markers?

Does anyone know if this page is still maintained? I found several broken links, and 2 of the email addresses I've tried under Contact Us bounced back saying they weren't valid.

Yorkshire (West Riding) Lookup Requests / Re: John Mckenzie of Newfoundland Canada

Hi,

During the 18th century, much of the population of Newfoundland was fairly transient, coming over to fish for the summer, and returning in the fall.

It was at one time illegal for people to winter over in NL, though of course some did. Those who did were called Livyers (live here) and it eventually became a surname.

Welcome to rootschat Harbour Dog. If you go to the dark bar near the top of the page and click on SEARCH, then enter "Forces War Records" into the search box you will find other threads about this company which may be of interest.  :)

Hello, and thanks for the welcome! It is precisely because of Forces War Records that I joined rootschat, to warn others about them. I wish I'd realised what rubbish their site is before I parted with 25 quid yesterday!! Took me about 30 minutes to realise they offer nothing whatsoever.ß
