Suffolk Lookup Requests / Re: Looking for Annice COTTON born 1526 Wingfirld

Thanks for the replies all. Yes I'm aware that with the dates going back so far then primary sources are vital. Unfortunately they are also elusive! I have found some bits here and there but cannot as yet find a definite link between my Annice and her parents. Thanks Solidrock - I have had a look but I can't find anything saying Annice Cotton was born in 1514 other than the link you gave. I think the birth-date of 1526 is more likely just going by my research but of course I'm looking for any alternatives. I have looked at other Suffolk Cotton links but it's not really getting me anywhere so far.   I need to look at her supposed parents wills - so far I've found nothing solid.

I found it on Family Search but I have found results elsewhere. Sign in to Family search, search for Annice Cotton, birthdate and place, spouse and parents names. It's at the top of the results. Also by Googling Rose Freville and John Peyton - Annice's grandparents I have come across Annice as the daughter of Thomasine although sometimes I find Alice or Annis and other name variations. Today I found that there is a discrepancy with Annice's grandmother (Thomasine's mother Rose Peyton)  so it is very difficult to  determine the true lineage.

Suffolk Lookup Requests / Looking for Annice COTTON born 1526 Wingfirld

Hi, I'm looking for information on the parents of Annice Cotton (born 1526 in Wingfield, Suffolk, married to Freestone). I found her parents to be Christopher Burgoyne and Thomasine (nee Freville). She is the youngest child and all her older siblings were Burgoynes. I wondered why her surname was Cotton? There is a big gap between Annice and her siblings - 9 years. Also her mother had her in 1526 when she would have been 53! The only link I can see with the Cotton family is Annice's great grandmother's sister was Blanche Cotton (nee Francis born 1425, married Walter Cotton). These Cottons are from Cambridge and Suffolk while the Freestones are from Suffolk - close counties but it seems that Annice was the only one born in Wingfield. The only thing I can think is that as Annice's father died when she was 7 and mother when she was 13, maybe she went to live with the Cottons as she was an orphan. But there does seem to be a discrepancy with the age gap between siblings, the mothers age when she gave birth to her and of course the surname.   I hope that makes sense!  :-\ Does anyone have any other ideas or suggestions? Sorry if this is the wrong place to post - I've just joined up.
