Immigrants & Emigrants - General / Re: Zipfel in Lenzkirch?
« on: Sunday 26 March 23 11:00 BST (UK)  »
Thanks Justin.

When I started the tree about 3 year ago, I would have used ancestry and just followed the Census returns back to 1841.  I presume I added the extra further from somone else's tree.

I have as far back as Charles Zipfel a Clockmaker on the 1841 Census, and it would be his father who I have down as being from Lenzkirch.

At some point I lost most of the research documents from my hard drive and I've only gone back as far as the Census will allow on all my branches, because I wanted to find the information myself rather than relying on someone else.

I'm just starting to poke around beyond 1841 now, and on the old spreadsheet John is still there, I'm just looking now for some confirmation.

I was looking at old maps and buts and thought it might have been part of the Hapsburg Territories.

Immigrants & Emigrants - General / Zipfel in Lenzkirch?

Hi,

I'm starting to dip into the Partners side of the tree, and once branch leads to Lenzkirch and the Zipfel surname.

Berlin-Bob mentioned on another post from 2004/5 when someone else mentioned the same names to post on this board, so hopefully I can get some help.

I think I have gone as far back as John Zipfel (I presume the John is an anglicised version of the German name) born in 1745 in Lenzkirch.

The family from there move to Norfolk and Brandon.

My german is basic, but I can look around sites and use translate sometimes, but if anyone can narrow down a couple of pages to help that would be really good.

I don't even know which 'country' Lenzkirch belonged to in 1745 as unification wasn't till the 1800's.

 Any help appreciated.

MARY ANN number 2

It looks like Isaac has a new young wife and family in 1881 so presumably is widowed by mid 1870's.

He does have a new wife, but I wouldn't presume he was widowed.  I used to think that but so many turn out to just put that on a marriage certificate so they can get remarried in church, 1 family member did it twice which took me a while to untangle.

It's possible she died, but I can't find a death notice for his wife, and it wouldn't explain where the daughter went.

Hi,

I've had much help from this site before, so hopefully I can get some more.

I'm looking for MARY ANN number 1

Mary Ann Robinson - born to James Robinson and Christiana Pixley, she was baptised 1st January 1837 in Middle Rasen.

On the 1841 Census she's in Middle Rasen with Christiana, and Christiana's father John Pixley.
in 1851 it's possible she's the servant to John Miller, also in Middle Rasen.

 I lose her after that.

 MARY ANN number 2

Mary Ann Robinson born in 1960 to Isaac Robinson and Maria Firth (or Ann Maria Firth on the 1861 Census)

on the 1861 census this family is in Earswick, Yorkshire. I lose her and her mother after this.

On the 1871 Census Isaac is back in Middle Rasen, I've checked the 1871 Middle Rasen census and they aren't there.

 MARY ANN number 3

Born in 1881 to the same Isaac Robinson and his second wife Elizabeth Bonnett (which makes me wonder if the first Mary Ann he had died?)

I follow her through most of her life, marrying William Fisher and John William Woolley.  I think she died in 1965, but I can't find John Woolley's death, or place, which would be most helpful as I try and find her burial spot.

Any help appreciated, especially regards the first 2.

Lincolnshire / Re: Canwick Road Cemetery - Lincoln

I went today, visited both Canwick's, Swithins and Newport.

Using Findagrave, Newport is quite easy to navigate if you have the plot number.

Canwick New Cemetery is okay, once you get used to the way the plots are in squares.

Canwick Old is difficult, and I had the same as many people, I found only one of 5, but the staff there are really helpful and we had quite a chat.  They don't mind helping if you have only a couple of names.  I had 25, but as I said to them, I only needed help with The Old Cemetery, and they got the maps out to help.   He later came across to the New Cemetery to see how I was getting on, so really nice to help.

Hi does anyone know who owns the Holme Lane Chapel (tong street, Bradford) graveyard.

I am concerned and would like to try to save it.  It is an important pieces of Bradford's history.

It has been previously ear marked for "destruction" and the bodies re-interred to allow for industrial units to be built on it.

Any help, contact or meet up appreciated.

Hi,

I was looking into this before christmas as I have family in there I think.

Bradford Council themselves are hopeless, they suggested contacting the archdiocese even though it's a completely different religion / church.  Obviously the archdiocese had no idea.

The national congregational church also couldn't help as it had been too long and they don't have to keep records the way the CofE do.

Basically it requires a land registry search, which I would have done eventually when I've got more time to be able to arrange a visit and spend more time on it.

West Yorkshire Archives I think have a burial record for the monuments in there.

If you arrange a day for clearing let me know and I'll try and arrange a visit up to help.

Only one word jungle!
Very sad that this has been allowed to just rot away.
 Brian

Hi Brian,

I haven't given up on visiting, I just haven't really had time since before christmas.  I'm going to look at the video later, but if anything is organised let me know and I'll come up and visit and help.

The local councillors got back regarding ownership, basically saying, contact land registry.

So, I'm away for the rest of the week after tomorrow.  I'm going to contact Local History, probably tomorrow and arrange a visit there, before calling at the site on my way home.  So around 2pm.

Does anyone want to meet there, Brian, if so do you have a specific day you prefer, I'll book my appointment round that then
