Thank you for your response Nigel.  You are probably right in that Price is a family name (given or surname) somewhere in the past and may or may not come to light sometime in the future.  I appreciate you input.

My great grandmother was a Morris and her mother was an Ellis so the Price didn't come from there.  It's not a matter of being illegitimate.  I guess it's just one of those things that I will never know.

Thanks,
Barb

Shropshire Lookup Requests / 1841 and 1851 Lookup for Shrewsbury
« on: Sunday 25 September 05 18:47 BST (UK)  »
Hi I am trying to place my PUGH family in Shrewsbury on the 1841 and/or 1851 census in Shewsbury, Salop.  David Wilson PUGH born in 1836 and brother Richard born in 1840.  Could be 1835 and 1839 as the first dates are christenings on the IGI.  Other siblings are Mary 1832, Elizabeth 1826, Martha 1843, John 1841 and Margaret 1830.

Any help would be appreciated.

Wales / Pugh/Price Nickname?
« on: Sunday 25 September 05 05:27 BST (UK)  »
Can anyone tell me why my Welsh family went by two surnames.  On their birth, marriage and death records they go under the name of Pugh. One the census's they go by the name Price.  My great grandfather's death certificate is under the name Pugh and his obituary in the paper goes by the name Price.  Has anyone else come across this or knows why it is?

This has made searching for this family very difficult.

Thanks,

David's age on his marriage cert. was full.  On the 1881 census David, Eliza and family were living under the name of Price.  I wonder why.  Could be that Price is a family name.  they were found in Minera, Denbigh.

What is David's age on his marriage certificate?  From that you should be able to determine year of birth, and then the correct entry on the IGI.

I have David's and Eliza's marriage cert.  Dated Oct. 5 1861.  Looked  thru the IGI and found Eliza's birth in 1839. Also all her siblings, so now I really am looking for is David's family.  On the IGI there are two David's, one born in 1828 the other in 1836.  So Ann is one mother the other is Mary.  So, I will keep rooting. Oh yes, on the marriage cert. no info on David's father's name.  Thank you  Agnes

Hi Jan,  Thank you so much for answering, I have been into Family Search and found some Pugh's born in Alberbury.  It doesn't help much as I really don't know how to corrobotate the info.  I'll keep digging.  Thanks again
