Thanks everone for your help. The drapers business seems to have been a successful one and old man Lomas a multi millionaire by today's measure. Hope he paid his staff well.

Has any one got any information about Robert Lomas ltd. a drapers shop on Oldham st in Manchester. I have an ancestor working as a shop assistant in 1921. I was wondering about the business in a general sort of way. Was it a big business, successful, other employees?
Regards

Yes, I do have the marriage cert. William Turton was my grandfather, my grandmother was the second marriage. William recorded himself as a bachelor on his second marriage and never talked about his first marriage which only lasted about a year. I probably have no photos of Beatrice, only a possible picture found when we cleared out a garage many years after my grandparents had died. Beatrice seems to be a completely forgotten member of our family, so if I can find some present days members of the Stafford family , maybe I can bring some of the memories and pictures to light.

Duplicate of Cheshire message.
I have a marriage between William Turton and Beatrice Stafford in 1925 Stockport. Sadly Beatrice died soon afterwards and we know almost nothing about her. I would like to find further information about the Stafford family, including present day members who may be interested in their family history.

I have not followed the family forward, all I have so far is the possible Stafford family members:
Sarah Ann B.1890. 1891 census at 6 Walker lane Hyde. 1901 census(I don't have the full details).  1939 Registration with widowed mother at 223 DUkinfield Rd Hyde.
Beatrice B. 1901
Wilfred B.1903 ?
Ethel B. 1898 ?
Daisy B.1906 ?
The last three children confuse me! the 1911 census has a family living at 8 Pine street Woodley with a Mother Elizabeth but father is listed as William and Ethel and Beatrice have the same age. Perhaps there are two Stafford-Knowles marriages with a similar choice of childrens names?

Wow! That’s a lot of info in one day.
I have the bare bones of the Stafford family from BDM, the census and the 1939 registration. I was hoping to make contact with any descendants out there who might have info and family photographs of Beatrice Stafford. So I am tracing the family ‘forward’ rather than ‘backwards’ as we usually do. There are some connected family trees on Ancestry.  Beatrice married my grandfather William Turton in 1925, but a year later Beatrice died of TB on 26 Oct 1926, living at 37 George lane, Bredbury. My grandfather never talked about his first marriage, he moved down south to the Plumstead area of London .William soon remarried to Ida Steer on 12 Nov 1927, but on the certificate he described himself as a bachelor, not a widower.
All I have are a few family stories from the Turton family living in Stockport and a few photographs found fairly recently showing unknown women one of whom who might be Beatrice.

I'm researching this Stafford family from Hyde/Bredbury/Stockport:
Arthur Stafford born 1866. wife Elizabeth Stafford born 1864 (nee Knowles). Daughter Sarah Ann Stafford born 1890, Beatrice Stafford born 1901. There seem to be a few related family trees on Ancestry but I cannot access the people who created them. My connection is to Beatrice and the rather sad story about to her.

Dave
