I am researching a William Monk who died in Whitechapel in 1856. According to his age as shown on the 1841 and 1851 censuses he was born in 1801.
This William Monk was a horse slaughterer (a ‘knacker’) and some of my ancestors apparently worked for him.
The St Sepulchre birth intrigues me because that is near Smithfield market and prior to 1855 it was a major centre of horse slaughtering.
