Family History Beginners Board / Re: Anyone in Basildon?
« on: Sunday 04 September 22 16:12 BST (UK)  »
Yes I’ve joined!  :D
I’d certainly be open to setting up my own social group but am looking to recruit some people first! Find out if there would be local people around who may be interested in coming along to sessions… I can’t be the ONLY person in Basildon who is researching their family history!  ;D

Family History Beginners Board / Anyone in Basildon?

Long shot but is anyone here in or local to Basildon, Essex?
I’d like to set up some kind of meeting/social for people who are interested in or researching their family history but unfortunately the few people I do chat to online are a bit faraway.
Just a thought!
If anyone is close to me and is interested let me know  :)

Baptism of John William Coope in Wanstead in April 1803.

That's the one! I found the transcript on FindMyPast. Yes I'm wondering if this is the correct record as it fits with the surname spelling and area. The lady I am doing this for was very interested to know if the surname was originally Coope and changed to Cope.
Of course I'm not entirely sure this is the right baptism?

Ahh I see, yes Henry and Mary would certainly fit especially when you consider the names of their other children (thank you for that info Annette) but reluctant to put this as fact unless I can prove it, especially as I'm doing this tree for someone else!
And no I couldn't find William in 1861, I was hoping he would turn up as I researched the rest of the Cope line as they all seem to live with and near eachother

Thank you for this, do you mean the baptism for William? When I click the link it takes me to the marriage record?
Looking at the existing trees on ancestry where Henry and Mary are named as William's parents.. the baptism records attached are completely out date wise.. so I don't think the info is correct.
The Wanstead baptism fits as he married in Wanstead and both are spelled Coope I believe.. but now looking at the Woodford baptism I don't know if that could also be a possibility?
That would mean his parents were Benjamin and Dorothy??
So confused ???

Oh my GOD this is gold! Horrible for poor William but so interesting… the lady I’m doing this for is going to be so interested!

Fantastic advice everyone… and yes the Ongar death didn’t make sense to me either.
Ok I’ll get back onto this tomorrow with fresh ideas!
Not that familiar with family search so I’ll check that out thank you so much. Still fairly new to all this, only been doing it full time for the past year so much to learn!

According to someone else’s tree on ancestry he died in 1883 in Ongar, but I’m yet to prove this fact. Sarah died in 1846. That I’m quite sure I’d due to his widowed status in 1851
