Other Countries / GIBRALTAR family help needed please
« on: Wednesday 17 March 21 17:21 GMT (UK)  »
My step-grandmother was born in Gibraltar, I think her dad was George (William) SLAYTOR born around 1905 in the London area. I'm not certain why he was in Gibraltar but he married Nellie Julia ????? aound 1927/28. My grandmother said she was Spanish but I would love to discover their marriage and the brides maiden/fathers name please if possible.

PS M grandmother and her mum are on Incoming passenger lists on the ship "Hakusan Maru" May 1929, back to the UK. Thanks!

The Common Room / Elizabeth MEE birth/parents
« on: Monday 15 March 21 10:33 GMT (UK)  »
Hi, I'm looking for Elizabeth MEE, census's say she was born in Wilnecote (then in Warwickshire)

between 1795 and 1805, although she married Theophilus TOMLINSON in 1816 in Castle Donington so

I'm thinking it's highly unlikely she was born post 1800 as she would be extremely young to get

married! I would really appreciate any help in narrowing down her DOB and parents names if possible.

Thanks

Hi Sarah, oh sorry I didn't realise that! I will do that in the future, thank you!

Hi Pogo, thanks I'll look into that. Thought it might be a Scottish regiment but wasn't sure.

Armed Forces / What Regiment please?
« on: Friday 15 January 21 16:14 GMT (UK)  »
Thomas BEGBY (BEGLY, BEGBIE, BUGBY) South Africa 1814..................

He is listed on his daughter Clara's marriage certificate as a soldier, but deceased by 1847. What REGIMENT would he likely have been part of? Possibly a Scottish Regiment but I'd love to know please. Thanks!

South Africa / Thomas Begby/Clara Begby
« on: Wednesday 13 January 21 22:53 GMT (UK)  »
Hi everyone,

I've just discovered that my 4x Great-grandmother was born in South Africa in around 1814. Her father is listed as Thomas Begby (Bugby?) on her marriage certificate in 1847 (London) and was a soldier by occupation, but deceased by the time she married. She married Henry Roberts.

I've looked but can't seem to pin him down. I'd love to know his regiment and any possible info on his daughter Clara's mother. If anyone could help I'd be very grateful. Thanks!

Hi David, can I please ask where you got the info for the Cave/Morris/Robinson/Moulton etc I was wondering if maybe I can't find much as the parish records aren't on Ancestry, but maybe another source? Thanks!  :)

Wow thank you so much everyone! That's amazing and thank you for searching for me! It's given me a lot to look into  :) I'm now planning a trip to Deeping st James and Maxey to see if I can find their graves.
