World War Two / Help deciphering WW2 service records plz!!
« on: Friday 21 April 23 16:59 BST (UK)  »
Can anyone help me decipher and understand some of the words and abbreviations on my Grandads Service Records for WW2?

I am particularly interested in understanding the units etc he was a part of and the roles he played within them / what they did during the war as I can only understand that he began in the 205th Heavy Anti Aircraft Training Regiment for the Royal Artillery but can also see he was transferred to P.C?

If it’s any help he was enlisted in Cardiff in 1942 and discharged in 1944 in somewhere I cannot decipher that you will see on the second image.

Any help and guidance would be so appreciated and received graciously!

Thanks in advance!

Ancestral Family Tree DNA Testing / Re: Help!!!
« on: Saturday 18 March 23 00:21 GMT (UK)  »
Thank you Everyone!

Can I ask, when having uploaded DNA to My Heritage? Is there any way to then link a DNA match to someone in my tree as the DNA match is predicting a different relationship than the person actually has and I wanted to amend that. Is that possible because I can't seem to find a button or link that I can click to do match the two and change the relationship.

Any help is very appreciated!!

Ancestral Family Tree DNA Testing / Help!!!
« on: Thursday 16 March 23 15:03 GMT (UK)  »
Hi everyone, I have hit a couple of stumbling blocks when looking at DNA connections.

I have my Fathers DNA registered with Ancestry and currently in process of submission of the same with My Heritage but it takes a few days to a week to load in.

Initially, I was successful in tracing a 362 centimorgan link to a 2nd Cousin of my Father whereby they shared the same Great Grandmother as their Grandmothers were sisters.

However, I have since found 2 more DNA connections that I am unable to link into my family tree so easily.

I have found a connection to my Father with over 514 cms also related to his 2nd Cousin (above) with their child sharing 353 cms with my Father therefore narrowing down that the connection is through my Fathers Grandmothers Maiden Family.

Logic would suggest to me that based on the amount of shared DNA, the person with 353 cms would stand in a similar branch to my Fathers 2nd Cousin and the 514 cms is going to be a strand closer in relation. Though I cannot for the best of me ascertain this link into the family tree.

I have information of their family tree and obviously my own but cannot find the crossover.

Furthermore, I have another DNA connection of my Father, who shares 450cms with him but i am faced with the same issue except that there is an added dilemma, not only can I not fathom the trace between familys but this connection shares a Grandfather with the same first and surname as my own but they are different people! What are the chances!

Disclaimer: Neither of the DNA connections are knowledgable of the connection themselves.

I just wondered if anyone has been in a similar situation with being able to create two separate family trees with an apparent share of DNA without any way to merge them? And if so, did you find a solution to this?

Any help, advice, or guidance will be greatly appreciated as I am banging my head up against a genealogical brick wall right now!!

Thanks in advance!

So sorry for the delay in reply, His date of birth is 31st May 1902, Yes his ww1 records are on ancestry. Is there anything you need in particular? He was in the Royal Munster Fusiliers from 1919 until 1922!

Thank you so much for your help so far!

Thats really strange isn't it! Thank you so much for looking for me!
Can you suggest anything that would make this any clearer?
I have ordered the official documents from the MoD but they are massively delayed due to covid and I was hoping to find something in the meantime as i have already been waiting months and they still aren't anywhere closer to completely my search order yet.

World War Two / Grandfather WW2 HELP
« on: Friday 12 November 21 20:26 GMT (UK)  »
I found out that my Grandfather served in ww2 - this was due to finding an extra note on his ww1 RMF admission and discharge entry.

This is what it reads:

Re Enl : RA (H.A.A) 16 4/42
No. 11416849 205 Hy. A.A.T Rgt
(Mof ref: 11/M437060 af 20.1.44)

Can anyone help me decifer this please?

My understanding is some of it is dates and his service number and that he served in the Royal Artillery - Heavy Anti Aircraft but I'm not certain and I'd love to find out more and hopefully with a clearer idea of these details, I will know where to look next for furthering my research on his life.

Super thanks in advance to anyone who can assist me at all!

If I have the right man - originally enlisted 28 Jun 1919 - then it looks like he re-enlisted into the Royal Artillery Heavy Anti-Aircraft, 205 Heavy Anti-Aircraft Battery (?), on 16 Apr 1942. Service number 11416849.

Blimey thank you so so much Jomot!!
I have been wondering what this meant and just assumed that it was a document reference but now I see it it seems so obvious!!

Thank you this is a huge breakthrough!
How can I access this record of his time in WW2??!!!

Thanks Monica, that is exactly my grandfather in luton that you have found, olive.. Patricks wife died in 1978 hence her absence in 1979.

Yes Josey I was referring to a blocked record on the 1939 register, it shouldn't be given his age etc but you never know a mistake?
