Thank you for your helpful answers.
I`m new to RootsChat and this is only my second post on the Forum.
I have found people very generous with their time.

Family History Beginners Board / Warrant of Sheriff
« on: Thursday 24 September 20 12:07 BST (UK)  »
Hello,
Can anyone tell me what this means on a Scottish marriage certificate?
It`s from 1883 and in the column where normally would be the names of the groom`s minister and witnesses it says `Warrant of Sheriff Substitute of Lanarkshire` and the date.
No minister or witnesses.
Is he in jail? Under `Where Married` it says `By Declaration in presence of` and the names of 2 men.
I am intrigued.

Thanks everyone for the advice especially William who was quite right.

I should have asked you all earlier!
many thanks

Family History Beginners Board / Missing from 1911 census.

Hello,
What are the reasons that a family might be missing from the 1911 census?
I know where they were living and who should be there but can`t bring them up from the census records.
This is my first post so I hope I`m doing it right!

Hello Macushia,
If you are still interested I have details about the Kerr family history.
I came upon the forum while doing some research myself.
I am the granddaughter of Margaret Kerr, sister of Beatrice.
Please get in touch if you want to know more.
Best wishes
