Free Photo Restoration & Date Old Photographs / Re: Sheffield choirboy?

Thank you all for your thoughts, and particularly the photo from jmagarac, I'm sort of comfortable now that this is an altar boy (or young man). I found online some quite elaborate 'pins' apparently worn for this purpose.
Sadly the dates just don't work out for the rellies I know of in Sheffield, so it's not resolved. But I'm wiser, nonetheless.

Brilliant dating info, Neale1961, thank you. I'm not sure about the choirboy link either, but not an everyday outfit, I think.

Can anyone shed any light on the garment this young man is wearing, and the possible date it might be? I'm hoping that may give a clue as to his link with my family (the only branch in Sheffield is the Andrew line)
Many thanks, Julia

That's our man! Fantastic, thank you so much Hugh  :)
[Modified - now I see the reference - ignore the query  ::)]Are you able to cite the source? I'm curious to know how I might have been able to find it.

Thank you Jim. They seem to be Army, and a few Naval reserves. Anyway, no sign of our man in that record set  :(

World War One / WW1 Medals RNAS/RAF
« on: Monday 16 May 22 11:40 BST (UK)  »
I am trying to find out for a friend whether her father was awarded any medals and what they were. We have a couple of his war records and one is stamped with 'Service Considered for the Award of War Medals'. He was in the RNAS in WW1 (observer and bomber) and then RAF.

We have had the National Archives check the following, but the details for Charles Philip Brady F1305 haven't been found.
Title: Particulars of British decorations and medals awarded to R.A.F. personnel between 1 April 1918 and 31 December 1919
Order item number: RC5648838
Catalogue reference: AIR 1/163/15/124/10

This isn't the type of research I have done before, so I'm wondering if anyone can suggest any leads we could try (I know there is the option of employing an independent researcher but if there are other sources to try that would be good)
Thank you!

Thank you so much, Dave.

It seems the records on that site end in 1877, so who knows where the Maschke family were then, but you have given me valuable information nevertheless, and other areas to look at.
