World War Two / Re: Why would a Londoner join a Yorkshire Regiment?
« on: Monday 21 December 20 15:41 GMT (UK) »Cliff, welcome to Rootschat, might your father not have joined the Cameron Highlanders at Cameron Barracks in Inverness, rather than the Cameronians? a Lowland regiment.
The batch of bewildered guys who were posted into the Camerons, pre their sailing for Italy, who came from the Midlands, Leicesters & Sherwood Foresters, soon settled down & were known by the Jocks as the Free British!
Skoosh.
Many thanks, Skoosh, for the correction: It was, of course, the Cameron Highlanders - equally bewildering to the brash 17-year-old Dad was at the time!
Cheers,
Cliff.
