Hi Carolyn,
Joseph Hill was my grandfather, he married his cousin Hannah Hill and they had one son, also Joseph.
He served with the Irish Rifles and passed his certificates as a telegrapher. He married my grandmother in 1907, my father was born in 1909 and sadly Joseph senior passed away in 1910.

Hi,
I am trying to find out any information about my gt.gt grandparents, John and Alexandrina MacGillicud dy, last known address Sackville Place, Dublin c1850. My gt grandfather moved to Middlesex and married a local girl, he tried to trace his parents and siblings Rosina, Emilly and Achilles but no luck.
If anyone could help or point me in the right direction I would be very grateful.

When you say he tried to trace his family, is that family knowledge, or do you mean the pension search?

As you say, they are fairly distinctive names but no sign.
I have tried to search Dublin directories with not much luck.

As far as I am aware he was trying to trace his family, nothing was ever mentioned about his parents and siblings. I wondered if they moved abroad as he moved to England, surely if they were also in England there would be some sort of paper trail. They are distinctive names so too are the names of Arthur Johns children, my grandfather was Julius Arthur and two of his siblings were named after Arthur Johns siblings, Rosina and Emily, sadly both died in their first year.

That is interesting, I now know Arthur John was in Dublin before moving to England plus where he was in 1871 although I notice his birth dates seem to vary between 1847 and 1851.
Does anyone know if 'Gentleman' shown as a deceased persons profession actually means what it says or is it a term used to cover many things.
I will keep searching for for his parents and siblings, I honestly thought with names such as Alexandrina, Rosina and Achille MacGillicuddy they would be an easy find but obviosly not.
Thank you all once again for your help, much appreciated!

Thank you all for your help.
My gt.grandfather was Arthur John MacGillicuddy and the earliest record I can find is when he is listed as living in Bird in the Bush Road with his wife and child, my grandfather. I cannot find anything about him before then other than he tried to find his parents and siblings when he was older. It seems strange that five people can disappear without a trace.
I know about the troubles in Dublin and a lot of records were lost but I live in hope that there are MacGillicuddy's out there who may know something.

A huge thanks to everyone for your help.

I now know the parents of Joseph senior were James Hill and Mary (Maria) Davison/Davidson and the parents of Hannah were Thomas Hill and Sarah Burkey and that James and Thomas were brothers!
Such large families!
