Thank you - yes, I think you are probably right! Any idea how to make contact?

I understand there is an MG car enthusiast who lives in or around Grange, Keith. He has restored many MG cars over the years and I should like to contact him. I believe his surname is Leighton. Does anyone know of him and how or where I might make contact?

Any help appreciated.

Thanks for all this information - very useful. I am trying to absorb it and investigate further. My grandfather referred to "my father's cousin Aunt Janet"  - although I suppose she could have been a great aunt. However, I cannot yet find a cousin of his father named Janet or even the spouse of a cousin who fits the circumstances. I have bought a few credits with Scotland's People so I will see what that reveals.
Thanks

Thanks very much for the comments above. I should have included the maiden name of Janet which was Macmillan. Well, I assume so from the info left by my grandfather - which is included below:
"My father (Lachlan Macmillan 1840 - 1906) had a cousin at Ardrishaig – Cousin Janet – as we always called her.  She was Mrs MacCallum – the Lock-keeper’s wife, and their family – Neil, Archie, Morag and Jessie still live at Ardrishaig. Two of her sons – Neil and Archie – are lock-keepers there still (1950). Their sisters – Jessie & Morag – keep house (Canal Cottage) for Archie (who is unmarried). Other two sons – Johnnie and Alex are in Glasgow (Buccleuch St). Jessie, who was for many years a housekeeper to a rich man at Campbeltown – sent my daughter a fine present at her wedding and her other sister Mary (who is Mrs Robert Fraser) is (or was) living at Bayonne, New Jersey ."
That is absolutely everything I know, so if you are able to add or clarify anything, I would be very grateful.

A relative of mine, known to my grandfather as "Aunt Janet" was married to a lock-keeper at Lochgilphead. His name was McCallum (possibly Dugald? but not sure). Mr McCallum was lock-keeper around the 1920/30s and his sons Neil and Archie were also the lock-keepers there in the 1950s. He lso had two daughters, Morag and Jessie. I would love to know more about the history of the loch and this family. Can anyone please help?
