Pembrokeshire Lookup Requests / Stackpole Elidor marriage look up
« on: Friday 27 August 21 21:02 BST (UK)  »
 Hi
I'm looking for the marriage of John Brock & an Esther ?? around 1787.

Their 1st child was baptised 1788 at Stackpole Elidor but they were from Cheriton, Pembrokeshire. Early children baptised with surname Brock, later children baptised with surname Brooks. Name has stuck since.

Esther I think was born c 1756 , found her burial record in 1842 stating she was 86. On 1841 census she was stated as 80 living alone.

Thanks

Glamorganshire Lookup Requests / Re: 2nd Marriage look up please

if the date of birth given on the 1939 register is correct, William would not have been on the 1861 census.

His father, John, is noted as a collier on the marriage certificate. But the John married to Gwenllian & then Margaret was a shepherd.

The William Powell who enlisted in 1879 was 19 and a puddler on enlistment, Roman Catholic, he arrived in Gibraltar 11 Aug 1880, in Natal 2 April 1881, Mauritius 17 Nov 1883. Unlikely to be yours as he couldn't be on the 1881 census and arrive in South Africa April 2nd.

Church burial records have him aged 78, june 1940 so yrs & ages are not consistant.
I've not found another william in the census that matches him.

His fathers occupation did throw me but in the 1st baptism of child he's stated as a labourer then consequently as a shepherd with rest of 1st batch of children. He's living in a heavily coal mining industrial area & may have done both to make ends meet. The father died when he was 17 & may have been his last occupation William rememered him doing.

The Religion maybe why I haven't found baptisms for the 2nd batch of children & a marriage in the church records.
Could the wife (Maryanne) being newly wed want his name on the census. I have the children listed twice in 1891 , with William & Maryanne & with Maryanne's parents. Nothing is consistant or to be taken as read I've found. I knew this branch was going to be difficult hence why i've left it for years.
I know he was a soldier , I just haven't found any records to prove where he was at this time.

I haven't got a subscription to Find my past.
I'd like to check if it s my gg granddad

Does it give his address?
His next of kin?
What campaign did he fight , if he ever did?
What was his conduct like?

Not sure what other info would be on it.
